[CHARACTER INFO]
CHARACTER NAME: Ryoutarou Nogami
FANDOM: Kamen Rider Den-O
CHRONOLOGY: Post-series.
CLASS: Hero, and he'll be keeping those dog tags.
SUPERHERO NAME: Super Rider
ALTER EGO: Ryoutarou Nogami | Delivery Boy

BACKGROUND:
Since it'll be a big help to understand what Imagin and Singularity Points are, here's an explanation of the terminology before I actually start the history.

Imagin: The Imagin are a race of monsters - mostly the antagonists, although there are protagonists among them - that come from an erased future, and because they come from this erased future, they don't have a physical form. This means that they need to depend on the memories of the humans in the present to give them a physical form. Their goal is to forge a contract with their weak-hearted human of choice by granting a wish of theirs (and it usually gets granted in the most violent way possible 'cause that's how the Imagin roll). After forging a contract, they're free to flee into the past using the memories of the human they granted the wish of, and they can wreak havoc and try to destroy it so that they can get rid of the present.

There are also cases where the Imagin are able to possess people that they come in contact with, and in the cases of the protagonists, they can gain a chunk of hair that's a certain color along with their eye color changing to represent the Imagin that's in control of the body. Various abilities can come of this, too, like super strength, breakdancing, and other things.

It should be noted that no one knows much about the Imagin in general and what happened to their time, too, since Toei and the writers haven't given up that information either (and there's a possibility that no one will ever know because they have a history of forgetting things).

Singularity Point: This is a term used to refer to a person that has an amazingly good memory - Singularity Points are capable of remembering everything that happens to them, even if changes in the timeline occur that would normally make others forget what the hell happened. The only time Singularity Points actually forget the things that happen to them are the times where Toei and the writers just... well, forget about the whole memory thing. This actually creates some weird plotholes towards the end of Den-O that never got explained! Along with this, Singularity Points will always exist outside of time, so... if their time is destroyed, they get the wonderful chance to ride on time traveling bullet trains in the sands of time forever while remembering how their time was destroyed.

Singularity Points are also capable of denying an Imagin the ability to form a contract, so they can easily just ignore the Imagin attached to their memories forever. When this happens, the only time that the Imagin have a physical body are when they're in the sands of time (unless a wish is spoken sometime and a contract is formed). But yeah! They're also capable of kicking the Imagin possessing them out of their body if they try hard enough to do it.

ANYWAY, let's finally move onto the background now that those terms are out of the way.

The world that Ryoutarou lived in was, for the most part, just modern day Japan until he discovered the DenLiner pass. He didn't think he was anything special or anything like that, and he was a failbucket that got stuck in trees on his bike after veering off the path thanks to dust in his eyes, fell into manholes, and had other various unlucky things happen to him. But-- anyway, Ryoutarou stumbled across the DenLiner pass on one of his particularly unlucky days, and with that same bad luck that had been following him all day (bear with me, please, because his bad luck is the reason a lot of things happen the way they do in the first episode), he ended up walking through a door and straight into the sands of time. It's there that he saw the DenLiner for the first time, and despite the fact that he was in some weird desert with a train that appeared out of nowhere, he remained completely unphased as he walked back out of the sands of time with a cup of coffee given to him by the woman that manned the dining car. Seriously, the first thing he did after getting back into the real world was walk to a police station so that he could return the coffee that he was carrying.

... He forgot to return the pass, though. So of course, once he realized that he still had it, he went off to find the owner of it (and ended up coming face-to-face with a time traveling bullet train and an odd girl that asked about a pass). During this entire thing, Ryoutarou is also possessed by Momotaros, the first of many Imagin to enter him - and while his presence is known pretty early, all it does is scare Ryoutarou. Eventually, when Ryoutarou was getting his ass beaten into the cement by some gang members, Momotaros took over his body (complete with a hairstyle and eye color change) and scared them off. Ryoutarou ran away after stopping Momotaros from hurting the bad guys too terribly, and he was shortly cornered by both the Imagin (in sand form) and the weird girl from the train. It's there that he figured out how to use that DenLiner pass so that he could become Kamen Rider Den-O -- although his initial form is really weak and he had no idea how to fight successfully. Thankfully, Momotaros entered him again and gave him access to Sword Form; one that would become the first of many. Momotaros proved that he was always at a climax and took care of the Imagin by the end of the arc, and thus began the adventures of Kamen Rider Den-O.

As time went on, more Imagin began to get attached to him past the initial super tough and hotblooded Momotaros. The next one to come a few episodes later was named Urataros; a liar and a flirt that attached himself to Ryoutarou on purpose. With the help of Urataros, Ryoutarou was able to access Rod Form in a fight with Urataros possessing him. Like Momotaros, Urataros also changes Ryoutarou's hairstyle and eye color when in control, although his color of choice is blue instead of the red Momotaros has. After another few episodes, Kintaros appears on the scene, although he's initially contracted to someone else. He tried to do his best to help out the person he was working with without violence, something that's incredibly odd for most Imagin. In fact, the kindness of the Imagin in general was just... really odd, since most of them usually aren't like a friendly grandfather sort of guy. Ryoutarou allowed Kintaros to possess him to save his life, since Kintaros had sacrificed himself to save others. He would've died without Ryoutarou doing that for him. Kintaros, like the Imagin before him, gave Ryoutarou access to new form - Ax Form. Like with the other Imagin, Kintaros had his own color (yellow) and he was able to possess him.

Finally, the last main Imagin came around, his name being Ryuutaros. He actually possessed Ryoutarou back when Urataros was around, but didn't make his appearance until later on! But anyway, Ryuutaros actually wanted to kill Ryoutarou at first, until he met his sister. Then he didn't, because it'd make Ryoutarou's sister sad. He's pretty childish, and when possessing Ryoutarou, he'll breakdance around collecting animals and the color purple is what marks the fact that he's in control of the body. Like the others, he gives Ryoutarou access to a fourth form, known as Gun Form. Once alllllll these guys are introduced, various time adventures start! I'm completely serious when I say that a huge chunk of Den-O consists of relationship building and time adventures, rather than an actual plot.

After some time adventures and keeping time safe from all the bad Imagin, another Rider appears. His name is Sakurai Yuuto (who I'll be referring to as Yuuto for the rest of this background for the sake of things making sense, considering that there's an older Sakurai Yuuto running around too). He has control of the ZeroLiner and he's able to become Kamen Rider Zeronos-- there's something else about him, too, though. Yuuto has a contract with an Imagin named Deneb, who... probably doesn't have a bad anything in his body and would be better suited to being a mom or a housewife. But anyway! Yuuto begins to help Ryoutarou protect time, although unlike Ryoutarou, there's a very heavy price that comes with being Kamen Rider Zeronos. Every time he uses one of his cards, someone forgets him. He can be in their lives still, but the relationship will never be the same. This becomes important later on, but until then, it's time to trudge on through the mess that Toei is about to make with the plot. An Imagin known as Sieg makes his appearance, too, soon after this. Ryuutaros picked him up because he thought that Sieg was a really interesting bird! He's ~special~ due to the things he can do and with his circumstances of existing. They wrap up everything involving him in a couple of episodes (they find a way for him to keep on existing) and there's a new form that appears that's called the Wing Form. From this point on, it's really only used as a special form, though, as Sieg starts to only appear for the laughs.

Things start to happen, though! Confusing things. Which is why I'll be bullet pointing everything that happens, since it probably won't make much sense otherwise.

  • Yuuto begins to kidnap various Ryoutarous from different timelines-- their purpose and reason for doing this is revealed later.
  • Some guy named Gaoh (a bad Kamen Rider) appears and hijacks the DenLiner because he wants to destroy time. This results in kicking Ryoutarou in the face and making him lose his memories.
  • Stuck in the past, Hana tends to Ryoutarou and they meet a young version of him that'll be referred to as Kotaro for the sake of making things make sense.
  • Momotaros and Sieg both appear, possessing both Kotaro and Ryoutarou, respectfully. THERE ARE TIME ADVENTURES.
  • During the showdown, the Ryoutarous that were kidnapped appear and fight alongside the main timeline's Ryoutarou.
  • Also during this, they learn that peoples memories are time. So yeah. Memories are pretty much the most important thing ever in Den-O's world. The consequences of this are that if someone doesn't remember a person at all, they're wiped out of time and forced to travel through the sands of time until someone does.

Once that's done, though, there's a problem- the only Imagin that Ryoutarou actually remembers fighting with is Momotaros, thanks to all the Ryoutarous coming from different timelines. The lack of memories was making them dissolve into sand, much to Ryoutarou's dismay. He'd grown incredibly used to them entering him all the time, and he didn't want them to disappear! They're eventually rescued from this fate thanks to Ryoutarou's strong feelings for them. Using a cellphone that appears when they disappear for a short period of time, he accesses something called the Climax Form, which brings back the Imagin that had disappeared and allows all four of them to enter him at once. While this is exhausting, he's overjoyed by the fact that they're all back!

Now that the Imagin are saved, something called the Junction Point manifests. It's something that leads to a timeline that was once destroyed, but has a chance to come back, now, depending on the things that happen. This leads to Hana, who had disappeared for a few episodes, coming back as a little girl since time was being weird. This is explained away simply by time disturbances causing that sort of stuff. Anyway! Climax Form doesn't really get a chance to be used for long, since the connection that the Imagin have with Ryoutarou is starting to dissolve again (they keep this a secret for a pretty long time). The reason they're disappearing this time is because the closer they get to keeping the Imagins future from happening, the closer they get to never having existed. Together, the four of them create a sword for Ryoutarou to use! That way, he won't be on his own when he fights and still able to use their abilities. When he uses this to transform, he accesses something called the Liner Form.

It's around this point that the writers over at Toei realized that they forgot to write in a bad outside of the monster of the week thing, so! To fix that, they come up with this crazy guy named Kai-- he's a Singularity Point that bosses the Imagin around. He doesn't really have a reason for it since it's never explained, but since he's pretty batshit it's probably safe to assume that he does it for the lulz. The Imagin can hear his voice in their heads clear as day, but the good ones all choose to just ignore the dude and keep fighting for good. Apparently everything up until this point has been decided by Kai too, since he seems to be the one picking the dates that the Imagin have been and are still going to. They're trying to find the key - the older Sakurai Yuuto - so that they can destroy him and get time to connect back to the Imagin future.

Ryoutarou doesn't find out that the Imagin are dissolving from them himself. He finds out that they're disappearing and can't possess him in the past because of this. He refuses to fight with them-- he doesn't want them to disappear, and this presents a lot of problems! Ryoutarou's not a good fighter on his own, and without their help, he's pretty screwed in a fight. Eventually, after having a heart-to-heart with Momotaros, he agrees to fight with them again so that he can properly protect time. They come to an agreement to deal with that stuff when they get there. During the beginning of the end, he's tricked into making a wish by Kintaros-- the Imagin all listen to it and make a contract with him, gaining physical bodies in the process. Soon after this, he's led into a trap by Kai-- this leads to Kintaros sacrificing himself so that Ryoutarou can get out of the past and into the present again. RYOUTAROU IS VERY NOT HAPPY AT THIS, but because they had no choice, Kintaros was left behind in the past.

Soon after this, though, Urataros begins to act like he was working for the bad guys the entire time. He works with the Imagin that were planting a bomb on the DenLiner and kicks everyone out at some point in time (it's there that Momotaros and Ryuutaros are shown to have physical bodies, but there are worse things to worry about at that point in time). While they're all being kinda emo over what Urataros had done, Ryoutarou notices that Urataros kicked them off a day before Sakurai disappeared (so... about a year in the past in January). During their adventures in the past, Ryoutarou runs into his past sister and begins to learn things. Now, here comes a rather confusing chunk of information-- as a warning, this gets really bad.

As mentioned earlier, the cards used to transform into Kamen Rider Zeronos erases the memories others have of Sakurai. Yuuto makes a mistake! Kai realizes that Sakurai is just a decoy and that Airi Nogami, Ryoutarou's sister, is really the key. Soooo... that Singularity Point thing with memories doesn't mean anything at this point! Toei lied. Apparently, despite the fact that it's shown a billion times over that Ryoutarou never forgets Yuuto when he uses the Zeronos cards, a Zeronos card made him forget that Airi was pregnant. That kid that Airi was pregnant with? That's the real key. That kid is the Junction Point as well as a Singularity Point, which is why they still exist even without their timeline. The reason Ryoutarou was important is because of the fact that he's a Singularity Point. His memories can always restore everything, even if its messed up. That's why the present always came back to normal after an Imagin wreaked havoc in the past. Hiding the memory from even Ryoutarou would insure the safety of the Junction Point. Kai destroys the timeline! But because Ryoutarou's a Singularity Point, he still exists and brings time back-- without the baby, of course, since he can't remember that his sister was pregnant. Sakurai goes into hiding and proceeds to lurk throughout time with a ticking pocket watch. As to who the baby is, I'll get to that one in a little bit.

Now that that whole mess is out of the way, there's still the entire problem with Urataros. It turns out that he wasn't really bad, and that he was really just protecting Ryoutarou and the others. Naomi (coffee girl that gave Ryoutarou the coffee in the beginning) sneaks onto the empty DenLiner when Urataros gets all the bad guys out and gets everyone back onto the DenLiner! Urataros deactivated that bomb that was on the train, too. Urataros knew exactly what he was doing and planned everything out (and it had thankfully gone completely according to plan). Like what happened to Kintaros, Urataros gets left in the past as he protects Ryoutarou. Ryoutarou's not too happy about this one, either-- he hates seeing this stuff happen to his friends.

Anyway, it's down to just Momotaros and Ryuutaros for the Imagin that they can fight with. Kai finds out that his plot failed and he throws a fit! He decides that he's just gonna go destroy everything instead because he's just fed up with getting thwarted by Ryoutarou with every single thing he does. So. He attempts to destroy time again! It just fails though, because heeeey, that baby I mentioned? She's still alive and doing well. Hana, that weird girl that's been with them during this entire ride that got deaged and all that, is the Junction Point. She's the one that's keeping a hold on the destroyed future. KAI GETS MAD, and just acts even more batshit than before. During this final battle, Naomi comes back with Kintaros and Urataros, too. Looks like she managed to save them just in the nick of time. With the power of friendship, they take down Kai and save time! ... But with Kai and all the other Imagin go the good ones that were helping out Ryoutarou and Yuuto.

... But the Imagin didn't really disappear. They made Ryoutarou cry, initially, but when he found out that they were still around, he was so incredibly happy. He didn't lose his best friends. It turns out that the warm memories that everyone created together is what saved them from disappearing. Ryoutarou returns the pass to the Owner of the DenLiner since Den-O is no longer needed and walks off the train after saying goodbye to the Imagin. He does this with a smile though, because he knows that they'll all see each other again! ... And they really do-- he gets the pass back, too, because Den-O is a cashcow franchise and it'll keep going until they can't possibly milk another yen out of it.

AND THUS, the adventures of Kamen Rider Den-O the TV series are done. It is a giant mess full of plotholes and confusion, so I apologize for all of that. I don't even know about this thing sometimes, since Toei loves forgetting things and retconning stuff. :|b

    POWER:

(almost) Infalliable Memory→ Ryoutarou's memory is supposed to be infallible. He's not supposed to forget things, and he's supposed to remember everything that happens to him! This can extend to things that he's learned and memorized. Of course, thanks to Toei's fail, he can forget things under the right circumstances (that's never actually explained, but I'm sure something can be worked out OOCly if his memory ever needs to be wiped of some information).

Being Possessed→ Ryoutarou is able to get possessed by things called Imagin! This means that they can get complete control of his body and do what they want with it while he chills in the back throwing out a few comments every once in awhile. Usually, he can control when his body gets possessed, but when he's completely knocked out, it's free game for any Imagin that happens to be around and able to possess it. When awake and being possessed, he has the ability to kick the person doing the possessing out if he tries hard enough.

For the canon possessions that happen, here's a list of what normally happens to his body when he's not in his Rider armor.

Momotaros→ When he's possessed by this guy, his hair gets spiky (with a streak of red in it), his eyes turn red, and he gains some muscular definition that he didn't have before since Momotaros makes him a little stronger than he was stronger! Momotaros tends to get him into fights because he's such a tough guy.

Urataros→ When possessed by this dude, his hair tends to smooth out more and get a little flippy on one side (there's a streak of blue in there), and his eyes will turn blue! He'll get a pair of glasses, too. Nothing else of particular note happens to Ryoutarou's body with this form, since Urataros shines in ways that can't be shown physically (he's the smartest of all the Imagin).

Kintaros→ When possessed by Kintaros, his hair grows longer (and there's a streak of yellow in it) and he gets yellow eyes. Ryoutarou's body pretty much gains super strength when this Imagin is in control, and because of that, often ends up with a ton of bruises on him. Kintaros doesn't realize the amount of strength that Ryoutarou's body gets with him in control.

Ryuutaros→ When Ryuutaros is in control of his body, a chunk of hair gets much longer than the rest of it (with a streak of purple, this time) and he gains purple eyes. There's nothing super special that happens to his body here, but man, Ryuutaros is a pretty awesome breakdancer.

These are just canon examples of what happens when certain characters possess him, so it's perfectly cool for others to possess him (even if these things don't happen)! In case Imagin come around in the future, I'd like for him to retain the changes that happen to him, since it's part of what makes Den-O fun.

So! Because of this, his mental blocks are actually pretty low, even if he has the ability to boot something/someone out if he tries hard enough.

Power Armor→ So, this one is so that he can summon his armor in a very sparkly and rainbowy fashion. If he managed to get his belt and pass through the 'Porter, Ryoutarou would simply just fasten his belt around his waist and pass the DenLiner pass over it for different forms. There's a set of four buttons on his belt, but if he doesn't press one, he gets Plat Form. It's weak and a surefire way to get Ryoutarou killed since there's absolutely nothing awesome about it. It's called the Plat Form because it's the base that all the other forms build off of. There's a dinky sword thing that comes with it, but seriously. :|b

When he presses the various buttons on his belt, the Imagin that the color represents will jump into his body and take over the fight so that Ryoutarou doesn't die. Different forms mean that there's a different Imagin in control! Sword Form, Rod Form, Gun Form, and Ax Form are all the major forms (and the only ones that will be used, provided that the right Imagin is in the City at the time).

Anyway, the only form that he can access on his own is Plat Form! It's part of the Den-O charm to access different forms depending on who is in Ryoutarou's body, so I'd like to keep that and have forms locked unless the required Imagin for a form arrives (like Urataros being around allows Rod Form to happen, but not Gun, Ax, or Sword).
