Yay for beagles!

A beagle won best in show at Westminster for the first time ever! His name is Uno, he's adorable (wouldn't stop baying and barking and wagging when they announced him the winner) and I've decided that he must be Darwin's daddy.

As a former AKCer (AKCite...who knows), I was astounded he actually won. The hound group doesn't get a whole lot of respect (I still remember a magnificent Saluki bitch who got robbed one year) and beagles have been getting kicked in the ring for longer than Charlie Brown's had footballs snatched out from under him. Snoopy finally got his props!

As for Darwin's parentage: Purebred champs do occasionally produce seriously neurotic offspring. Not that I'm sayind Darwin's neurotic...much ;)

I was just pleased to see a super-common breed get it. And Uno appeared to be a real sweetie, personality-wise. (I always feel bad for the poodles -- they're nice dogs, but they get such absurd haircuts!)

I'm going with the theory that Darwin was bred for looks, not brains. And that that doesn't make him any less snuggly, slurpy or lovable. :)

Hee. How could I not? Especially when they handler was being interviewed and he had to keep stopping the dog from chewing on the microphones, cords and cameras . . .

Given that Uno was just under three years old, I don't know if that's possible, but even if it's not, it would explain a lot about Darwin...

And of course, when Uno attacked and chewed the microphones on the cameras of the people interviewing his handler, I did think of the parallels.

Much love to poor Dar and his prizewinning pop.

I saw that! It was so cute! Uno was all, "Oooh, look! This microphone fits in my mouth! And it's got this yummy cord! And look, there's a camera lens that looks tasty! And here's a . . . " VERY beagle, VERY Darwin. *snuggles all beagles, real and virtual.*

And hey, all my X-Men stories take place in "the not too-distant future" as the movies say, so what the hell -- Uno can be Darwin's daddy. Why let reality intrude at this late date? :) (Though actually, Tanya says they could've started breeding him at age 2, so he might actually have some pups already.)

Lol. I'm surprised any beagle stands still long enough to breed.

A VERY cute youtube vid of a 3 week old beagle puppy baying. I can see little Darwin doing this all night on top of Scott's chest.

This is just adorable. What a cute doggy! But I gotta question the wisdom of encouraging a beagle to howl . . .
