Rec and rant

First, three cheers for seldear, who wrote the deeply fine summers_fling ficathon story "Domestic" (http://community.livejournal.com/summers_fling/11371.html) for me. I cannot believe I've gotten TWO stories that involve knitting -- my little fanfic cup of joy runneth over. And I wish to hell I'd been ( Read more... )

At least it's not this big.

Um... don't click if you've got SERIOUS issues about bugs because it's a weta and even I kind of twitch when I see it and I like bugs.

Aiiigh!

I'm generally pretty good about killing bugs, though I dearly wish the damn cats would do it for me. Or that I had Darwin the Beagle to bark at the bugs, then swallow them. Personally, I think growing up in NYC scarred me for life where bugs are concerned, because I see something black and crawly and think, "OMG! ROACH!" (And crickets look roachlike! Except for the awful churr-CHURRP sound they make.) *Shudder* I'm off to work now, and if anyone messes with me, I'll just say, "Listen, pal, I've already killed once today. I can do it again."

The cats don't kill the bug because it is Far more fun for them to watch You do it. Obviously.

We are only here on Earth to amuse the cats, after all.

You are wise. My kitties view me as "the help" -- I suspect they regard me as well-meaning and not overly bright, but they keep me around because I'd be lost without them. Also, I have the thumbs necessary to open food containers.

For the record, dogs don't eat insects either. Scamper (my own dog) frankly refuses and just stares at the thing if pointed out to him.

That I was visualizing a Volkswagen sized cricket ball when I read the first sentence of the rant cannot be good.

My kitties used to eat bugs, as a sort of protein supplement, I guess. They'd go after spiders and flies and such. But they're old now and they save their predatory instincts for yarn. This time they were all, "Oooh! It's a bug! *sniff**sniff* Bored now."
