'Below the sea of clouds lies eternity'

Wind, Sand and Stars by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.  I'm recommending this book to everyone. It consists of the author's reflections on being a mail pilot in the 1920s and 30s. His language is lyrical, his images keen and his insights sublime. More than that, it's a book that heightens your senses and makes you glad to be alive.

I'll certainly look into it. I think I found a copy of it at a bookstore here.

I just read The Little Prince a year ago or so, perhaps more recently, and though it was a bit kiddish the sentiment wasn't lost on me. I don't know how this compares, but it seems more mature. I'm rather interested in Antoine's life now, so I might look into it.

I saw a stage adaptation of Night Flight last year which I enjoyed. I will probably read that book too now, sooner or later.

I've read some more of it, and I am not sure how I can remunerate you for letting me know about this. Something about it makes me feel as though I'm extending inside myself. I don't know if that makes any sense at all. It's so very beautiful that I'm scared to read it when I feel as though I'm not in the right state of mind for it.
I just wanted to say thank you for sharing this. I may have told you already, but I'm not sure I can say it enough.

Cool.

I felt that way too sometimes, while reading it, that I should savor it for...I'm not quite sure when. Either that, or always be reading it.
