Haha, nice. I really like the competitive feeling of doing better than the person I marked as a 'pacer' during the few 5K races I've run in. Sounds even better up in the mountains away from it all. Glad you didn't hurt your self too seriously (even if The Ankle is upset). I went hiking in "the mountains" (or what these crazy Virginians consider mountains) earlier this month, fell during a perfectly easy end-of-the-trail part and ended up having to get 13 stitches on my knee and give up running for the next month. :( Not to be a mother hen about it or anything, but it's a good thing there was someone else who knew you were up there and from the sounds of it, would have looked for you if you had fallen. I don't like the thought of you dying cold and alone in the wilderness! Have fun next Saturday!
Unless I broke my head, neck, or laranyx due the fall when my ankle hypothetically gave out, there is no possible way I would have died on that particular trail. Lol. So don't sound all concerned, it was supposed to be funny! :) There are always lots of people on that trail, all of them strangers who would never notice me missing, but who would surely help if I needed it. Us granola-people are like that. Lol.
Sorry to hear you busted your knee up. I hope it was all superficial and won't affect you once it's healed??? Virginia now, huh? There's some pretty country out there, but I agree that after having lived in or near the Rockies for any length of time, I would no longer consider their endless rolling woodlands to be "real" mountains either. Still, I bet it makes for some gorgeous runs?? Especially during the fall colors. I know in Kentucky some of the trees we don't have here in Colorado were so vibrant they seemed to make their own light.
Oh it was nowhere near full force, trust me. Just all I had left at the time. And yes, stretching is good. That is amajor pet peeve I have had of every running, hiking, and gym buddy I have ever had- I can't ever get them to stretch for more than a few minutes just to humor me. Like they think it's silly.
I'm actually more excited than apprehensive about the next few weeks right now, and I feel like I've finally got some energy built up about it. The main thing will be to pace myself and not get derailed by insignificant details. Focus. I gots it now.
