#31. Flowers

Dec 04, 2008 14:00

Your first gift of flowers,
a dozen roses
first white then red,
you cursed the florist’s
mistake and their choice
the budding blooms not
quite perfect.
Later stargazer lilies
blinked at me
past rose and daisy petals.
randomly petals filled our life,
much like the morning
you turned me gently
pausing morning frenzy
just so I could see
the bouquet waiting silent.
I have plucked one by one
knowing “he loves me”
is owned by each petal
our hutch becoming
a vast and varied sea
of dried love petals.
