So I've just been informed by my landlord that I now have SIX WEEKS to find a new apartment, as apparently the water system in the building isn't up to code and the basement apartment where I've been living the last 6 years will have to be completely torn up in order to make the necessary repairs

Not really, as long as it's accessible by the 6 train or the Yellow (N/Q/R/W) or Orange (B/D/F/V) lines. Or the PATH for that matter.
