Shawn never has and never will leave his best friend hanging.
That just isn't what best friends do, and if Shawn is feeling really honest, Gus is more of a brother and always has been. Shawn has been in Chicago a long time without his best friend, however, and he misses Gus fiercely. So much more than he ever thought he could miss anyone, because he and Gus have always done everything together. The idea that Chicago is a place that Gus can't go breaks his heart more than he could ever say.
And when he hears that song, there's a part of him that just knows. He doesn't need to look out the window but he does, just to be sure, and then with that, he's skipping the elevator and going right for the stairs.
He runs down the stairs, out the front door, and you better have put that boom box down, Gus, because your best friend is about to tackle hug you.
For Gus it's only been a few days, but that's long enough. Sure he's always made jokes that his life would be easier without Shawn, but they're only jokes. In reality he needs his best friend. A lot. In reality the idea of never seeing Shawn again was one of the hardest things to hear about the rift.
So this moment? This is a moment to go down in history. Because Gus is a very happy boy.
As soon as he sees that familiar face headings his way, he sets the boom box down and opens his arms.
And yes, he's already crying. It's a think, okay? He's been trying to work on it.
It's a tight hug, and suddenly the world feels like it's righted again. He has his best friend. He has a wiener mobile. Chicago suddenly sucks a whole lot less.
"I missed you, buddy," he says, letting the serious moment be what it is. Ten months without Gus is ten months to many. "It's been a long time."

Gus nods and wipes his face on his sleeve. "How long have you been here?"
