Harvest Festival!

Nov 17, 2011 15:54

The sun shone in a cloudless sky on festival day. Harvest crews were called in from the fields in the early morning, toting berries and herbs. The staff of the Wisdom Cafe set to work for hours, the aromas of stews, pies, and breads spreading throughout the village. And as the morning gave way to afternoon, villagers lifted colorful banners over ( Read more... )

GUILDMASTERS' SPEECHES riftedvillagers November 17 2011, 21:57:04 UTC

[Honchkrow doesn’t know if this will be worth it, but targeting the people who think that they used to be humans seems like a good idea. They’re not going to be experienced, but… they need something to do, after all.

Plus, he had to admit, the whole thing was all very interesting. A very small part of him that wasn’t completely self-serving was even invested in helping them out. The fact that he could likely get recruits out of this was a small bonus.

So, of course, a one-eyed crow with a fedora walks up to a podium…]Greetings, everyone! To those of you who know me, it’s nice to see you at the festival today… and to those who don’t, let me introduce myself. I am Honchkrow, Guildmaster of the Honchkrow Guild. I suppose I should provide a little bit of background for the new folks ( ... )

[A certain Mareep listens attentively to the guildmaster's speech, having fallen for Honchkrow's apparent interest in helping the transformed humans. After listening to the other guildmasters, he seems to be the only one who would believe their plight. He spoke to Mawile earlier, and she seemed to think they were all crazy. And the Smeargle's guild involved rescuing; that would probably involve a lot of unnecessary dangerous encounters.

If helping the bird explore will bring them closer to finding a way home, he'll do it.]

[ha ha 'unnecessarily dangerous elements'

ha ha ha

...well, anyway-hm. There's someone he recognized-that... distinctive wool pattern on that Mareep was a little difficult to forget, really.

Well, may as well-]

Ah-and there's one of the people I've already met. I believe I didn't catch your name-you, the Mareep. How've you been faring?

The speeches were interesting to Minato. He had learned a little bit of the town's history and listened to the Guildmasters' speeches and clapped (well, the best he could clap) for each of them when they had finished saying their pieces. So, guilds worked for the good of the town, huh? Maybe he should consider joining one.

He decided to think about the possibility while helping himself to some food. Maybe it was his new form, but he found a lot of these things absolutely delicious.

"Here!" At some point, having inched her way along the table, Luna finds herself more or less shoulder to shoulder with Minato. her response to this is to nudge him lightly before passing over a Pecha berry. "It's very sweet. Have you tried it?"

"No, I haven't, thank you," he said, happily taking the berry and biting in. She was not kidding when she said it was sweet! The flavor reminds Minato of peaches and he devours the rest of it. Picking up a nearby bowl, he said, "These are spicy. Have you ever heard of a spicy berry before?"

"Oh, yes! I've had these very spicy berries before, when I got stuck in one of the bushes." Luna plucks a berry from the bowl and drops it into her mouth, her fur bristling slightly as the spice hit her mouth. "Very odd. They look just like cherries, don't they? I wonder if berries are what we're supposed to eat now."

[Luna is hard at work today. She might not be terribly effective or helpful, but she'll do her best. She races along to catch up with the back of the harvest crew, and will spend most of the day down in the fields with them trying to safely help bring the harvest home.

Tired but satisfied, she settles down to listen to the speeches. When they're done? She's ready with questions, lots and lots and lots of questions. And after that? Luna stumbles off to the buffet table, settles herself down, and stuffs her face. For a moment, she feels almost as though she's back at the Ravenclaw table and anyone watching might notice a look of something like nostalgia pass over the Smeargle's face.

After that? She'll occupy herself painting some actually rather pleasant pictures on the trunk of a nearby tree. Go ahead and ask, she just might take requests. Or she might already have done a quick sketch of you.]

[Don't mind the totodile watching you paint with avid curiosity.]

You seem to be quite talented.

[Luna looks around at Jade with wide eyed curiosity even as she keeps painting.] Do I? Thank you. That's very kind of you to say.

[Well, Hinamori hadn't known what to expect from this-she was still a little thrown by animals having an apparent civilization, especially given that the majority of them didn't actually have opposable thumbs. Those seemed kind of necessary!

Still... it wasn't a bad kind of thrown. This festival was pretty nice, and those speeches... hmmm.

It seemed like her best bet would be joining a Guild, as far as finding out more about what was going on went. She hadn't quite decided though, so... she decided to mull it over while going around sampling food and chatting people up... which was a somewhat bizarre experience, given that the berry most closely resembling a cherry was spicy, while the one resembling a peach tasted exactly as expected (absolutely delicious). So, now, she's trying a berry that looks like a blue strawberry-]

...eugh!

[...it clearly doesn't taste anything like strawberries...]

[Roxas had been eying the food for awhile now. Considering he had recently found himself stuck in the body of small dog without any idea of what was going on, his appetite was little too none. No, he was eying the odd appearance of the food more than anything.

So when another dog-like animal seemed to have an unsavory reaction to one of the more odd looking berries, Roxas let out a small chuckle. The possibility of starting up a conversation to learn more and being able to interact with someone was becoming much more appealing instead of watching from the sidelines. Maybe this other..."Pokemon" was in a similar situation as him too.]

Let me guess...Sour? [Moving to stand by her side, Roxas fumbled to pick up a berry that looked like an grape-colored blackberry. One thing he definitely missed-- having thumbs.]

N-no, bitter, actually...

[ugh ugh ugh that was almost as bad as plums. And hmm-another... dog-like animal? At least he seemed a little more... bipedal.]

I... it wasn't too bad, but I was definitely not expecting it.

Hmm, that's too bad. Try eating a different one if you can't get rid of the taste.

[Biting into his own, it seems like he got lucky this time.]

This kind's kind of sweet-- [Some of the juice had gotten onto his paw, and he could already tell it was going to need a few washings to get it out of his fur. (The idea of actually having few was odd, but he wasn't quite displeased about it.)]

Stains too. Guess that means watch out.

The festival was pretty interesting as a whole, especially seeing who set it up. Satoshi had stayed somewhat apart from everyone though just thinking about things, as he was prone to doing whenever he wasn't otherwise distracted. The few berries he'd grabbed had only been nibbled to taste them but he really wasn't thinking about them at all.

Guilds, a recently founded town, humans becoming Pokemon...and him. It was definitely an odd puzzle to figure out, and he was obviously not the only one trying.

Another person trying to figure out this puzzle was Hinamori Momo. Admittedly, she... wasn't the most accomplished puzzle-solver, but she was doing her darnedest! The Guilds seemed like the best way to get to answers, but...

She had been wandering around the tables for a bit, though she'd strayed away from the bulk of the activity. She... had a tendency to pay less attention than usual when absorbed in thought, so it was rather fortunate that she snapped out of it before actually running into the Smeargle (though she had come close enough for it to be kind of awkward).

"Oh! I'm... well, nothing happened, but-"

"Nothing you need to apologize for then."

Satoshi gave no indication he was really bothered by the closeness, though he made sure his tail wasn't near being stepped on. Tilting his head he studied Hinamori. "Are you a local or were you human?" he asked, curiously, though his tone was rather bland.

...yeah, that was true. Still, she really had to pay more attention to that kind of thing.

"I was, um, a human," she said, figuring it would be best to go with that. It wasn't really necessary to make things more complicated than they had to be. "I guess you were too?"
