I run a blog about young adult science fiction at www.intergalactic-academy.net, and I recently decided to start a series of episode recaps of Space Cases. This is the first time revisiting the series since I was 14, and I'm sure the recaps cover a lot of ( Read more... )

Thanks! It's exciting. I seriously got my start writing with this fandom so becoming a person who gets paid to write about aliens has been MINDBLOWING. ^_^

Yes. Kristian Ayre holding the teddy bear was the moment my ovaries first popped -- seriously... what is it about that guy's face? I can't even. I still think he's beautiful; I'm married, and he's a grown-up openly gay man living in Canada.

Heh, I googled him as I was researching the post, and his FB did set off my gaydar a bit. Funny that they played up how happy he was to kiss the actress who played Elmira during filming. Anyway, good for him! Probably makes the fangirl factor even more awkward, though. ;)

I think he must have been in the closet -- especially in the mid-90s when that sort of thing wasn't even spoken of. He was on the set with child actors. Even today, a more accepting time, a lot of people don't think that homosexuals should be anywhere near their kids. Plus, they knew he was cute and probably wanted to play up his "straightness" to appeal to as many SNICK-audience girls as possible.

Yeah, it makes sense, what with how gross society can be. But it must have been incredibly hard for him. Sad, but glad that's a fiction that no longer has to be maintained.

Kristian Ayre is gay? *pouts* Well, good for him :)
phoebenorth, what is the title of your book? I'm a manager at a public library, and I handle children's and YA collections. I'd love to see your book, and make sure my library has it!!

Oh, that's awesome! It's actually not going to come out until next year (July 23rd), but it's called Starglass, and it's from Simon & Schuster BFYR. I'll send you an email to get your contact info--I'll send it on to my publicist and try to make sure you get an ARC.
