a moment of discomfort

I feel really uncomfortable with the word, "butch." This is something that I need to examine. My Ladyfriend as of late has said, "I'm so pissed that lesbians still have ownership of that word. It doesn't fucking belong to them..." I wish I was more comfortable with it. If I was, would I associate it with me?

Sometimes the word rubs me the wrong way because of the way it has been used negatively through the years and also attempted to pigeonhole some people's gender expression, etc. But if other people want to ID that way, it's okay with me.

I just think that the number of butch IDs were way higher in the past because the number of trans/gq IDs were much lower. Now the young folks who would have ID'd butch are gq or trans.
