1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.
I included the links for songs that aren't as popular as the others. I'll be happy to give links for the others if anyone want them though.
1. EVERYONE'S A LITTLE BIT RACIST - Avenue Q (
listen/download here)
"Eh? But don't you like hamburgers?"
"No, I hate hamburgers." The girl says, smiling at Taro. Taro shoots Mimura a surprised look.
Mimura hides his smile under his sleeve.
"But you're from America!" Taro accusses, like it should explain everything.
The American exchange student laughed. "Yes, but it doesn't mean I like all American food."
"Ah sou des." Taro says, eyes still uncomprehending of this strange specie before him--From America and not like hamburgers. He cocks his head to the side, looking at the girl.
Mimura smiles, and apologizes to the girl in english.
2. MY CHERIE AMOR - Stevie Wonder
Dance class. Ikegami fought of a raging blush as she got to be partnered with Taro. Taro held out his hand, reminiscent of those European gentlemen Ikegami always daydreams of. She accepts, and they move to the middle of the floor.
Like everything Taro did, he danced with ease, smiling softly at Ikegami as he lead her around the floor gracefully.
Mimura smiles at his partner and asks her if she wants to go dance now.
The girl stutters, blushes, before giving off an enthusiastic, "Hai!"
Mimura and his partner joined Taro and Ikegami on the dance floor.
Taro grins at Mimura brightly over Ikegami's shoulder.
3. DON'T SAY YOU LOVE ME - M2M
"It's Pokemon," Taro says amazed.
"Yes." Mimura says. "They used to be all the rage you know." He kids Taro.
"Ah, hai, but where did you find these?"
"I had them lying around at home. I don't have use for them anyway and they still worked so.."
"ARIGATO GOZAIMASU MIMURA AN-CHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN." Taro's brothers and sisters chorused, hands on the gameboy between them and the pack of Pokemon cartridges.
"Sugoi ne?" Taro said tears in the corners of his eyes. He really wanted to try those games as a child but never found them as a priority, something he had mentioned in passing to Mimura the week before.
"You're welcome." Mimura smiled at the children. "But remember to let your an-chan play, okay?"
"HAIIIIIIIIII." The children said enthusiastically, then bowed to him, running inside to play with their new toy.
4. FIVE MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT - Boys Like Girls
They kissed each other, soft and sweet, the pace slow, as one would in those rare moments of just pure emotion.
Then it became deeper, breaths tingling, tongues twirling, telling each other of words unspoken.
Mimura held Taro's hips, shifting for better access to Taro's mouth, for more, more, more of Taro, as their tongues battled for dominance.
Taro's fingers tangled in his hair, pulling him, his body shifting closer where they sat side by side on Mimura's couch, closer, closer, until he found himself on top of Mimura and they were forced to break apart, breathless.
5. THE NEARNESS OF YOU - Norah Jones
Mimura and Taro had spent a day working with their classmates for a project. Now they were on their way home through a park, with the sun beginning to set.
They were walking, walking, shoulder's brushing with every other step. Mimura had his hands in his pockets, and Taro had his behind his back.
They were walking, walking, walking--just walking, the grass crunching beneath their feet, the birds chirping, the far off sounds of children playing tag.
Between them everything was silent.
Words are overrated.
6. OVERDRIVE - Eraserheads (
listen/download here)
There are many things Mimura wants to do.
Make the perfect floral arrangement, study law, be a psychiatrist, try newscasting, go to the moon, spend a year observing mental patients in an asylum, watch ordinary human behavior in different countries, be a social anthropologist--and the list goes on and on.
Falling in love was not on his list.
But as it was, it seems he had accomplished the lone thing that wasn't on the list.
He'd met a boy, a boy who lived for the moment. Who also had dreams, but knew how to pace himself.
So maybe Mimura's plans would have to wait a few years more.
The boy had thought him to cherish everything, one day at a time. The boy who made Mimura realize he was on overdrive. He has a lot of dreams, lots of things he wants to do.
But he realizes now, that by planning all these--he's forgotten to live.
Taro's shown him that.
One day at a time.
7. WHEN IN ROME - Nickel creek
Taro had learned how to adapt to any kind of dreary circumstance and make the best, if not more than the best out of them.
It was a wonder how he grew up so streetsmart, seeing that there wasn't any example for him to follow.
But it was lucky he was.
Taro had learned how to adapt to any kind of dreary situation and make the best of it--but this, this was something new.
How was he going to adapt to this?
This being, he had realized he had fallen for his best friend
Who happened to be male.
Like him.
Taro puzzled over it for a few minutes, a few minutes during dinner, and a few minutes more during his part time job at a construction site, until finally he decided.
Taro had learned to adapt to any kind of situation and make the best of it.
"Mimura-kun." Taro says seriously, right after school the next day.
Mimura looks at him, surprised at Taro's seriousness.
Taro flashes his winning Taro smile at him.
"Can I come over tonight?"
8. RUNAWAY - Dong Bang Shin Ki
It was tiring, to live their lives like this.
Running, running, running.
Always running.
It's not as if they wanted to live their lives in constant motion, in constant danger, in fear, in constant rush.
It just..happened.
They've been best friends since they were toddlers, neighbors in a fairly normal suburban neighborhood.
It started innocently enough, a high school prank, to rob a convenience store.
But they had enjoyed the rush so much, they started doing it
again
and again
and again
Then they got bored. They moved on to bigger things--to restaurants, to department stores, to shopping malls.
Last night, they had just killed an old shop keeper.
They didn't mean to.
At least, he hopes they didn't.
9. I WILL CARRY YOU - Clay Aiken
Taro doesn't think of himself.
If he was less blunt, he'd probably say, Taro was a selfless person.
But as it was, he was agitated, Taro had lost weight again, and there was no better way for him to get the point across, really-
"You don't take care of yourself."
"Eh? I'm fine, Mimura-kun, don't worry." Taro grins at him. "One of my part time jobs will be ending in a week, and another in two days, so I'll be--"
"You don't take care of yourself." Mimura repeats, pushing a plate of onigiri toward Taro. "Eat," he says.
Taro grins at him from behind tired eyes, suddenly becoming alive at the food in front of him. "This is for me? Arigato, Mimura-kun."
After Taro finishes of his onigiri, he says, "Ne Mimura kun."
"Hmm?" Mimura says, satisfied that Taro's eaten something.
"It's okay if I don't take care of myself right?"
And Mimura was going to say, who on earth would think that that was okay,
when Taro continues, peeking at him from under his eyelashes "because you'll take care of me anyway."
10. COMPLETE - Stephen Speaks (
listen/download here)
Taro shifts, burrowing his nose into Mimura's chest, bringing his arm up on Mimura's stomach.
Mimura's hand tightened around Taro's waist, legs tangled together under the sheets.
Taro murmers something in his sleep, and Mimura answers, words known only to both of them.
