Comparing TOS!Christine's hair color to Reboot!Christine's
Because I was bored and making up headcanon is fun...
Let's talk headcanon for Christine dying her hair, shall we? Well really, I'll just talk and you hit the back button because this is ludicrous.
TOS!Christine Chapel
So TOS Chapel started out with this weird ass hairdo. I just... I don't even. C'mon, Christine, get it together. It looks like a drunk sheep shearer did your hair. Anyway, it's an odd frosted blonde that's more silver than blonde.
And the back! The back is dark brown! Again, I don't even. No wonder Spock rejected you girl, looking like you just came in from a hurricane.
Then she goes blonde and it's fabulous and it's a little bob with a flip at the ends. I wonder if this is why a lot of reboot fanart for Chapel gives her a bob. Anyway, it's cute.
Then she went with the beehive, which just must have come back into style in the 2260's and, though I personally don't think it did her any favors, she rocked it like the fierce bitch she is all season.
She wanted a change, so she went for an auburn-sort-of-brown shade here. I think it looks really nice on her. And it's back to the bob, which is my fave look on her.
Then years later, she decides to go dark, and she rocks that too. Really, the only disaster was that first 'do. All the rest are sassy and, with the exception of the beehive, flattering.

So my headcanon for Christine is that this dark, honey blonde shade is her natural haircolor. It's flattering and she likes it, but wants some pizazz from time to time.
After she quit ballet at age 16, it was a rough period in her life, so she decided to try a bunch of new things and one of those was dying her hair a rich shade of red.
So it kind of matches up with TOS!Christine dying her hair auburn at one point. We don't know how often TOS!Christine dyed her hair before Starfleet, but maybe since she was a teen.
She has yet to dye it dark brown though. Maybe in the future, once she's Dr. Chapel, like TOS!Christine.
Here's her current hair color. It's a lighter ash blonde, so if her roots grow out a bit, it's not such a contrast like the red would be growing out.
