Well it's happened. I had a feeling with Jack being so vocal in his sleep that this would happen. He stirs in the night, and cries a little, but most of the time not enough to fully disturb his sleep. When the crying wakes him, I can settle him back to sleep by laying on his bed with him, and stroking his fac. I tell him to clothes his eyes and ( Read more... )

James gets them, and has been getting them since around 2 years of age. Mostly when he's over tired and goes to bed late. It's almost guaranteed to happen when he's exhausted for some reason.
I just sit with him and try to calm him, that's all you can really do. I was told not to wake him, not sure why, but I don't.

Thank you all for your feedback. I did a bit of searching on here and it's really mixed advice from docs and people in general.

Advice for waking and some for not. So I think I will have to play it by ear and see what works best. For now I will just be there straight away when it begins, and providing he's not flailing his arms and or kicking out I will attempt to cuddle him like I did last night. I feel I need to cuddle him. I don't like the idea of him shaking with fear. I just want to take it all away. I will continue with the singing as it's always soothed him before.

One thing I found interesting when I read up on night terrors, is that it usually happens within an hour of them going to sleep. Before they're in a deep sleep and can dream.
