I always thought it meant "you can't fool me, because I married someone who was the best at deceiving people" referencing a past experience which transferred knowledge forward. I have always been intrigued by that line as well.

one of the first couple songs I got to liking was "school night" and it was a really deep song. still is. however I first got to listening to it long before having my kids. after being a mom for the last 5 years, that whole 2nd verse just kills me. the part about imagining someone running around trying to put out the flames while their kids are crying and she can only save 1 at a time. just thinking about that song makes me tear up. but the melody's so beautiful that it kinda makes up for the fact that it feels like the saddest song in the world to me.

Ugh, I don't have kids and don't plan to really - but that Verse KILLS me! Such a visual and I just ... yeah like you said so beautiful and ... yeah, that one gets me every time!

I take the line as to be saying "You can't fool the queen (you can't get anything over on me) baby (my now husband) cause I married the king (my relationship with my ex-husband...he was the "king"of manipulation and just a liar in general...and I think of him as the king of those things).

Hope that makes sense.

I always take it as "don't bother trying to fool me, I know you" sort of similar "As Is"
