i'm a cultural relativist but weigh the right to cultural life as much as all my other rights. what i was pointing out is that going in and giving communities that practice fgm sexual education, midwives and contraception and denouncing the practice as "SUBJUGATION OF WOMEN" is foolhardy and does not validate historical specificities. third world women in ethnic groups are a product of their historical context..there are not merely a group of homogenous oppressed females. historical considerations must be made before development products take flight. this means looking at structure and ritual and then bringing in human rights. not the other way around.

no wonder the third world thinks we're neo-colonialists?

miss and love you,

this practice also goes back to a time when current human rights standards did not exist..so that needs to be considered.

all the u.n. and its agencies have on their websites are a footnote about how "fgm is engrained in culture"

what?
how?
why?
