And I thought coyotes and moose were bad...

Yeah turns out there's a COUGAR running around loose somewhere. And by "somewhere" I mean the last sighting was in the neighborhood across the street from us. Lovely, just lovely.  I mean do you really want one of these in the development ACROSS THE STREET?!  I'm sure it was just out on a little excursion before returning to the woods 20 feet away ( Read more... )

cougars are scary...but honestly I doubt they are going to stalk people. if they attack a person, it's probably because they are desperately hungry or scared.
just trying to make you feel better. keep an eye on those pups missy!

yeah, honestly I'm not really worried about myself, I was half-kidding about that but I am worried about our pets b/c if a coyote can get them, a cougar certainly could.

well as I said, take special care of them. I think I should fly out there and be your pets' body guard!!

We have cougars around our house all the time. They've never attacked our animals. But they've stalked incredibly close to them before. Especially in the back pasture. I've heard of cougar attacks on people; but only because they were cornered or something, you know?

Here's the general Graham tip for a cougar spotting:
1.back away slowly (do not run or turn your back) and go into your house.
2. Call animal control or something

Have a good spring break! :)

Seriiously though, don't worry about it. Chances are it's already gone.

Yeah, I'm not suuuuper worried about it attacking me (although obviously I won't be walking in the woods alone at night, although I didn't do that anyway, lol), but I didn't know if they were people-attackers or not. But it's nice to hear that it's never gotten any of your animals. I've had two cats carried away by coyotes...and this cougar situation makes me worry a little bit about my toy poodle. I wonder if I can teach her to back away slowly?

That made me feel better, though. You have a good spring break too! Now you can listen to Rooney :)

Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about it. From what I have heard unless they are cornered, hungry, frightened or have problems, they aren't people attackers. Like with most wild animals I think they just get confused cause there didn't used to be houses around and now there are and they are curious. But it shouldn't be long before he or she is caught.

But I must say they are gorgeous animals! I love how majestic they look *and they are adorable when they are babies*

so what kind of music does one play to attract a couger?

i'll set it up on repeat play. in the middle of alaska. to make all the cougers run there and not bother anyone anymore!
