New Bleach chapter out
....and the titles get weirder and weirder. This one's "Buckbeard," which thanks to "Blackbeard" only makes me think of pirates.
- Interesting new enemies, the Vandenreich. They don't have to use normal means of getting around, which made me assume they are, indeed, half-hollow - but Ichigo says the new shadow-thing isn't a Garganta. They refuse to identify themselves to Yamamoto, because he says they know him - but they can use bankai as well, Sasakibe says. So either everyone's wrong about the Quincy thing, or, more like, these are Quincies on....steroids, or something. As always, I have a hunch that Ichigo's uniquely mingled identity - his hollow blood, perhaps especially - will be the key to defeating whoever it is; Ivan notes he can't make Ichigo's bankai "vanish."
- Ichigo's all riled up now, and he wants to know what's going on, so soon he (and I presume the nakama) will be fully involved. In the meantime, I found Yamamoto's anger sort of heartbreaking - he's never this quick to whip out Ryuujin Jakka, and his sudden response kind of unscores the danger that this is. I don't know if Sasakibe's really dead or dying. but Yamamoto's upsetness is palpable. And you know, the more I think of it....I do believe that do a degree Yamamoto's death is inevitable in Bleach. It's the closest thing to a "natural" death the series could probably offer: he's been soutaichou for eons on eons, there's a new order emerging, etc. But it is sad to think of losing him if nothing else because he's the embodiment of SS and what it's always been. Put more simply: if Yama-jii goes down, it really will be the end of an age.
- Here's the new Baddie:
Erm, does anyone else think he looks an awful damn lot like Zangetsu? ....just me? I do like the "I don't like fighting" bit right after he lops off the arm of his minion, whose father appears to be Tsukishima.
Really curious to see where this is going...
