Kubo's storytelling these days greatly increases the chances of me having a heart attack right in front of my screen.

The ByaRen here made me internally squee with delight but I am right here with you about being afraid for Byakuya. Though, as you mentioned, Renji still has his bankai. Byakuya has the strongest vice-captain and is able to use techniques beyond kido, shikai and bankai. That has to count for something...I hope.

I also just realized something as I was reading through another forum; Renji's fought against Senbonzakura before, so theoretically he might have a slight upper hand in this fight, yes? And Kenpachi hasn't shown up yet, either - and he has no bankai, which would make him ideal.

Hmm, that's true. Another ace up Renji's sleeve. Next to Byakuya, he probably has the best knowledge about Senbonzakura and its dangers. After getting shredded to pieces you'd assume that he's worked hard to be less vulnerable. At least his chances to stand up against his captain's bankai are considerably better than the other vice-captains'.

And I completely forgot about Kenpachi. That's gonna be fun...in a weird way.

I hate the way my stomach just twists every Wednesday :-) Reciprocity demands that since Byakuya covered Renji's back before, Renji will do the same for him, at least once and I hope that that will suffice.

This is making me write the absolutely mushiest fic. Seriously. Pitiful!
