I hope the Quincy assumption that Byakuya is dead isn't true.
If anything, I'm glad Kenpachi has shown up with some resistance. I'm hoping more of the Captains show up, especially the Vizard ones. Kubo's doing a good job of keeping us in suspense by running so many plot arcs simultaneously (and only showing what he wants to show). When Kubo promised annihilation that warranted the appearance of the Zeroth Squad, he wasn't joking. I just wonder how much more there'll be. >.
The emphasis was on seems, so I'm thinking there might be some hope left - plus no color panel or flashbacks, that sort of brutal end... All of it feels too disappointing to me to be the conclusion of Byakuya's role.
I wouldn't be surprised if Kenpachi gets taken out too in a few chapters. I think the arc might be heading that way; Ichigo having to listen while everyone he loves just gets mowed down. I'm sure (I think?) that something decent will come of it at some point, but damn.
Oh God. Byakuya. Renji. Rukia. My heart is breaking, for all of them.
I refuse to believe that Byakuya is dead. It really isn't the way he should go out and I don't think Kubo would let him. No flashback sequence either, that gives me some hope.
At least we can rely on Kenpachi to stir up some trouble.
Yeah, I refuse to believe it too. It just seems so cruel and useless a way to go - no bankai, no kido, no flashbacks, no color panel, no nothing. If this IS how Kubo chooses to do it, I'll be hugely, hugely disappointed. Even Gin got a color panel!
I wonder, with Kenpachi. If this arc gets as bad as I think it might, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets taken out too in a few chapters. I've always said Soul Society would need to be broken to be rebuilt, and it seems like it's heading that way.
I am in total denial over all of this. It's just so incredibly painful. Cry, oh hell yeah. Seems like I'm in good company. But, I must say, I am *really, really happy* that I have two nice ByaRen AU stories running right now, and I also have to be very, very careful not to let all this misery pollute my already established plot line.
Well, it's shounen, so until there's a funeral, I'm not convinced. The "seems" was telling to me, and honestly I would expect Byakuya to go out in a much better way if and when the time does come - this felt anticlimactic and cruel. That said, these are horrible, difficult chapters to get through and it's starting to influence my mood. Ugh.
Well...he might be making a point of the fact that in war, no death is pretty and many deaths are unnecessary and totally devoid of any sort of glory or higher meaning. That would sort of suck.
OTOH, his plot has not been this dark so far, so I hope we'll see some kind of a recovery, and if Byakuya actually dies in the end, it will be for a good-enough reason, not just because his commanding officer made an idiotic tactical decision.
Regarding mood and stuff, I'll quote Tylashke here: "Just don't think about it." Harsh, but it works.
It might sound silly, but I was actually thinking yesterday that Kubo could be holding out on Grimmjow's reveal until next week (if it is him), because it's his birthday and maybe he feels it'd be appropriate. But who knows if Kubo actually remembers all these birthdays! All I know Is that I checked Grimm's birthday before the chapter, and felt he wouldn't show up this week because it isn't until the 31st. :P
( ... )
I'm fairly certain it's Grimm at this point - I'll honestly be shocked if it's anyone else. I thought we'd go back there this week, but it wasn't to be.
I am, too. Just the anticlimactic nature of the fight, the way he went down (and Rukia and Renji too) and no color pages, no real tribute, no flashback... I'm staying way clear of Bleach fandom until something gets figured out for sure, because the speculation makes me crazy. Renji was so wonderful.
And yeah, Zaraki was really the only bright spot. Though I'd be willing to bet he goes down, too, and soon - this arc is all about the destruction of SS.
Hear, hear! I don't know that I'd stop reading the manga - I've invested too much in it - but I'd have to pull back for a goodly while.

Oh no... not Byakuya. Not Renji. Not Rukia.
