as you, i was waiting for the moment and was a little unsettled to see how Yama-Jii finally went down. i think it hurt a little more than i initially thought it would because of how cruel and vicious it was. i was hoping he would die in a more honorable way, i suppose. still, all my hopes lay with Zero Squad now. a contingency plan would not surprise me from Yama-Jii. Kubo likes aces up the sleeves so i would bet on it
( ... )
I think there's a contingency plan, too. Unohana, perhaps?
I think it would be....really interesting if Ishida ends up becoming an enemy. I can't imagine the rage of Ishida fangirls, holy cow. I expect that Ishida signed off because he felt the whole mess was his responsibility to bear alone, somehow, but you never know!
Yeah, something brighter would be nice. I think Ichigo's hollow is still very much there - subtle things indicated it during the Fullbring arc - but it might be a while before he shows it. I can wish! I miss Shirosaki.
Sigh indeed. Thank you for the update. I am keeping everyone in a state of suspended animation in my little AU version of Bleach. Isn't it odd that Kubo would turn to gritty realism this late in the story? I wonder if the 10 years have aged him, and if the world events have given him a perspective that he didn't have while he was still starting this manga. People change and grow, and their ideas and creative styles change with them. He's like the Quentin Tarentino of ink and brush storytelling.
Sending hugs, as always. And, I have a goodie for you - check your email tomorrow.
Well, aspects of the gritty realism were there before - Kaien's death in the manga is terrible, Ulquiorra's is painful, and Szayel abuses Nemu in a beyond-horrific way - but it's kind of blown wide open. I suspect he was always headed this way since there have always been hints of darkness in the story, but damn, it's a tough thing being a fan right now and enduring it.
I checked! Did I miss something? Sending you many hugs in return. <3
I'm hoping that flash in the sky will be an upturn in the story the next chapter. This chapter was one of the sadder ones so far and I'm sure Kubo did put in that flashback on purpose.
With Juha knowing so much about the history of SS, I'm sure more interesting match-ups are in the works, and Yama-jii or the Zero Squad should have some sort of plan as well. The amount of knowledge he has is interesting. I wonder if it's from his prior experience with the Shinigami or something else... Actually knowing about the Zero Squad (and possibly the Spirit King as well) probably suggests something. Also, Juha said he didn't consider Yama-jii as one of the five warring potential. I wonder who they are (I'm guessing Ichigo might be one) and I wonder how many might from the Zero Squad.
PS: I'm collecting prompts for Xmas drabbles over my LJ. =)
Me too. Heartwrenching flashback was heartwrenching.
I believe it's been confirmed Ichigo is one of the five...Kenpachi too, I thought? And Aizen. I think. I'm certainly curious to see where it's going to go. I'm dying for a TBTP 2 arc so much it makes my brain hurt.
Although the insight on Yamamoto, his past and how he sees his past self as a monster was beautiful -I actually think that and the color page were the only good things in this chapter-, the way he died was stupid beyond words. Seriously, I can't believe anyone thinks the Vandenreich aren't overpowered, this is ridiculous. It seems like a cheap plot device to force Zero Squad forward right NAO, which makes me worried, are WSJ editors pressuring Kubo? Are the ratings going down? While many expected Yamamoto to die in this arc, that he was completely one-shotted is too stupid to describe. There's no way to justify Ichigo eventually defeating a man that one-shotted the Captain Commander, there simply isn't. I really hope Kubo doesn't bring the Zero Squad so soon because once that's done, the current captains will have nothing to do fighting the Vandenrreich
Actually, in an interview Kubo mentioned the appearance of the Zero Squad as being important to this arc. I'm pretty sure that's one of the major points of this arc, so I don't believe it has anything to do with ratings. I think it ties back into the concept of the Spirit King and everything Aizen mentioned way back when. I think it's one of the climaxes this arc was meant to lead to. Plus, Unohana's out there somewhere still.
And I don't know, it seems pretty natural to me for Yama-jii to die, even in such a way. It's a common shounen trope, this is the beginning of a "new age" for Soul Society, he's the old guard... I don't think the Vandenreich is that overpowered; I just think the shinigami don't have the weapons necessary to defeat them, or the know-how. Ichigo, however, does. It all makes shounen-sense to me, which of course is not sensible, but works fine in shounen.
Yes, I do remember those interviews and we all knew the Zero Squad was coming eventually. My point is that this is /too soon/ we are barely 20 chapters into this arc and Yama-jii already died and the Soul Society has already been destroyed. It's moving too quick. That's why I mention ratings
( ... )
... I never thought I would cry over Yama-jii... ... but... The thing that really got me was Shunsui shouting... thus loosing his focus on the enemy... until then it just didn't sink in I suppose... *cries*
I really hope that explosion is Ichigo. And that he's gonna KICK THOSE BASTARD'S ASSES!! *cries*
