Question: Is it possible to bruise a nerve in your foot by wearing a pair of stiff leather boots? 'Cause I've got something going on here. Something's bruised or swollen or pinched in its groove or something. Not painful per se, just that weird electric twinge when I take a step, or even touch lightly the front-facing groove between my ankle bone ( Read more... )

You won't want to do it in this dreary weather, but once it warms up outside -- the military trick is to soak your boots -- literally. Put them in the tub or a wash basin, fill them up with warm water and let them soak for about two hours -- warm up the water every now and again. Put on wool socks to protect your skin from blisters, then wear them a few hours per day until they are dry. This will mold them nicely and get rid of any bad contacts. If there are still any bad spots while they are wet -- repeat the [soak and wear] until the leather stretches just the way you need it to.

Either that or take them to a cobbler for professional spot stretching, because a shoe tree won't do jack for ankle problems...
