movie night

Went to see Gravity at the movies tonight and really enjoyed it.
It's an incredibly simple story, but the way it's shot is really, really compelling. The visuals are just stunning and it's one of the rare movies where the 3D actually adds to the story. It pulls you in to the point that you forget that this in fact wasn't shot in space. And the sound design is brilliant. All the parts where it should be silent actually are and the movie theater I was in, was so quiet, you could have heard a pin drop.

I can't say that much to the actual story. It was sort of a combination between disaster movie and one of this movies where the protagonist are stuck in the middle of a desert or an ocean all alone and the accompanying motive of a main character with tragic loss in her past finds will to live again but Sandra Bullock was great as Ryan Stone. And there's that one picture that stuck with me. When Stone first makes it to the ISS and in the air lock peels herself out of that space suit and sort of unfurls, like a butterfly crawling out of a chrysalis. That was just...

I will definitely try to catch this one again in an IMAX 3D.
