Awesome Vacation of Awesomeness

Nov 30, 2011 23:54

As I might have mentioned before, due to the extreme generosity of my parents, my teenager and I got to visit Universal Studios Orlando this past weekend over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Short trip report: it was great.

Long form: prepare yourself. )

Oh, trust me, I wished the usual ride warnings had at least included a line about "Contains SPIDERS" along with the stuff about sharp drops and not riding if you have vertigo or don't like enclosed spaces. This is why I made careful note of when the AUUGH SPIDERS started and when they were over. The water droplets are supposed to be "spider venom" and I guess the idea is to give you a sense of your Narrow Escape. The important bit is that once they hit you with them, the spiders are OVER. It's only that one section.

Agree completely on the Dragon Challenge ride being AWESOME. We did both and I wanted to do more. Our friends had an agenda, so we didn't get to just hang out as much as would have been fun, but we thought it was great and D would have completely geeked out if he'd been there.

Looks like fun! I've never been, but hopefully will one day. You deserved a bit of fun after having no power forever.

Thanks! If you have the express passes, one day is really all you need for Harry Potter/Marvel. And those are the important parts!

Fortunately, M and I have the same approach to theme parks: Agenda? What agenda? We've got these line jumper passes, the place is open until 9 or 10 PM or something, we're gonna do everything that sounds like fun, skip the parts that seem boring, and if we really like something WE'RE GONNA DO IT AGAIN. Of course, having been Six Flags season pass holders several years running has given us a really good sense of what we like, what we don't, and how long a wait we're willing to endure for something. The only place we screwed up was the Rip Ride Rockit, and that was my fault for not having researched the coasters before we went, or I might have known it was so poorly designed.

I'm about Six Flags'd out, but if you ever come visit, we'll go, and I'll show you my special All The Coasters, Maximum Efficiency plan. Maybe with line jumper passes so we can spend the rest of the day in the water park.
