The unfucking thing sounds like something that would be good for me too. Maybe somewhere down the road you can tell me more about it. I am getting an actual modern phone next week that can have real grown-up apps. So maybe it would work for me

I was also diagnosed ADHD, back about 15 years ago. I took ritalin for a while, along with my anti-depressants. It made me tidy, but i could not write. Not worth it for me.

So, just treating the depression now.

Have a wonderful time at the Big E. I have never been, but I know a lot of people who go every year!

They tried me on Strattera along with my two meds for bipolar, but it gave me wicked insomnia, so I didn't keep on with it. I have to use coping mechanisms -- the iPod is adaptive technology, just like a hearing aid or a wheelchair. Paper agendas don't work because they aren't shiny and fun enough to make me remember to use them!

Right now the UFYH app only exists for iOS -- they're working on an Android version but it's not out yet and they don't have an estimated date. However, they have a tumblr and a twitter and it's possible to apply the system without the app -- I was using a timer widget on my laptop, or else the stove timer, to do 20/10s before the app came out.

It's not very different in principle from FlyLady, which was a system that I tried to use in the past -- but the founder of FlyLady is a devout fundamentalist Christian, and there's a lot of Jesus in her messages, and Unfuck Your Habitat is a lot more profane, obviously, and the irreverent tone suits me better.

My motivation for cleaning comes from watching "Hoarders" on Monday nights when waiting for the husband to come home.

I had to help gehayi clean out a hoarders-level room in her house after a housemate moved out. Downside: really scary, w/many empty food containers etc. Upside: many things worth salvaging, incl. working 1st-generation 20GB iPod, & a very good nearly new Targus laptop bag. Seeing the disaster area made me more motivated to clean up my own.

you should definitely google "unfuck your habitat" and see what it's like.

I'm considering installing the UFYH app on my phone. It sounds like something that may help me deal with habitat-unfucking without turning into a neurotic mess.

DEFINITELY worth $1.99. One of the best things about it is PERMISSION TO STOP.

I'm also ADHD-inattentive, and even before I was diagnosed was starting to create my own system partly inspired by both FlyLady and UFYH. I follow UFYH and sometimes am inspired to add new chores to my list by it.

I set a kitchen timer for 10-20 minutes, and let myself relax until it goes off. Then I do whatever chore is next on my list. Sometimes that will be something that takes 1 minute, other times it will be as much as half an hour. Repeat until bedtime. I find the slight variations help keep me motivated.

These days I use this Android App for my to-do list. All of my chores are broken down into the smallest pieces that still feel complete and I include some fun things that I don't do as often as I'd like.

I was using my stove timer before, but I love using the app's timer. I'll probably go through it and check out all the different chimes.

I *can* do 20/10s all day, but I need to balance getting writing done, too.

Most of my projects are things like knitting, which is a lot more interrupt-able than writing, so I just include "be crafty for 30 minutes" as one of my chores.

Oh, writing's interruptable for me too, unless I have some serious inspiration going. When I'm just working through a predetermined arc without the muse goading me on, I use 20/10s for writing too! I just managed the first 320 words of a story (that's supposed to come in at 15-20K) in 2 20/10s.
