Still here!

I wasn't doing very well for a while, though, which led me to withdraw from a lot of social media. I avoided LJ especially since I got hit with a flood of spam. I've cleaned it out now ( Read more... )

Congrats on progress with the books. I don't normally read books in that genre, but I'll get a copy of it to read.

I managed to survive life at UMass, Amherst. I spent a lot of time hanging out at the Science Fiction club (UMSFS). I don't know how it is now, but if your kid is fannish, it might be worth a visit.

Confession: *I* don't normally read books in the genre, except what my friends from fandom have written for original work! It's a very strange feeling. I hope you'll like it.

"If my kid is fannish." Why yes, you could say so. I did mention UMSFS' connection to the FOUNDING OF ARISIA, which Milo noted. Currently, though, Milo's more involved in connecting with the other people in the RAP... I only have the vaguest idea how a Residential Academic Program works, but if you get to know your dorm mates before you show up on campus, it can only be a good thing.

Oh...that sounds like a really good thing. My cousin went to UMass and got stuck living with a heroin dealer who was in and out at all hours.

Ann and I are planning a trip to England this summer. Flipping through a guide book for the area we'll be in (near the ports in the south), I keep coming across museums and think that they'd probably provide more background material for your book (one has Nelson's clothes from when he was a child).

It appears that RAP has been around for quite a while (50 years), but I don't remember if I knew about it when I was there. It looks like it could be a good program if you know what you want for an education.

Hooray for the final edits on your book and for your kid going off to college! *cheers*

Happening with me, lesse:

My first published story came out last month in an anthology called Death and the Detective. You can find it through Elm Books.

Just finished editing my own story for Turning the Tables (e-mailed the edits back a few minutes ago).

Aaaaand, I think I might have developed an allergy to cats, which isn't good when we have four of them, three of which like to nap on my bed and one of whom likes to curl up by my pillow at night. It was so bad that I was constantly rubbing my eyes and couldn't sleep because of it. I've taken steps to minimize how much fur ends up on my covers (no way to actually keep the cats off) and I'll probably have to take antihistamine to help with the eye irritation.

Oh, I'm also going back to school to get a master's in history to teach community college.

*re-reads list* Yeah, that's everything that's happened recently. I hope things continue to be good for you! *hugs you*

Oh yes, while I have long known that a chunk of my ancestors were slaveowners, I was really, really appalled that my 5 times great-grandmother, Harriet Hamilton Austin, who spent the first 50 or so years of her life as a well-to-do Scots-Irish gentlewoman came to the states and was immediately presented with an 8 or 9 year-old girl slave by her son-in-law.

That's an actual LJ post, probably the only one I've made, so you can read that easily enough if you want to know more.

Oops! Total brain fart. kebbykate June 5 2013, 06:21:43 UTC
I did a total misread on which year is in, I interpreted it as "my child has just completed junior year and is thus now a senior" the way one does right at the end of the school year.

Completely ridiculous of me.
