Cataclysm Class Change: Paladin

Oct 16, 2010 16:18

The Cataclysm class changes were too different to let pass thus my planned hiatus from the World of Warcraft was cut short.

First character I tried out was my main, paladin.

Retribution - There is more down time now than before. Judgment and Crusader Strike are the only main spells now for the ret rotation. Exorcism should only be used when it's free (and glowing!). Templar's Verdict every 3 Holy Power only (or when glowing!). Holy Wrath I think enters the single target rotation due to the tons of waiting time (and endless mana!). I'm gonna check Consecration, but the mana cost (and aggro problems) might just be too prohibitive. Divine Wrath replaces Templar's Verdict with multiple mobs. I generally like the increase in interactivity. DPS might be a tad lower than before but I would need more testing. I'm a bit indifferent on the segragation of spells for AOE or single-target, though. The new cooldown power-up, Zealotry, is a nice concept, but I still have to wrap my head around it.

Holy - Where did all these spells come from? Holy Shock becomes more staple now. Holy Light of course is still the main healing spell to cast. Flash of Light and Divine Light are more situational. I feel Word of Glory is unnecessary, but it might be more useful with the glyph that makes it a HOT as well. Heals are more lightweight now, but the mana costs are not too prohibitive YET, so spamming might still be the way to go for now.

No prot spec, sorry. Ask Bliz to allow tri-specs.

Overall, the Holy Power change makes the pally more interesting to play. I generally like the changes, but it might be an acquired taste.

gaming, wow, paladin
