After nearly getting run over by a semi, Cloud had decided it was time to give his beloved Fenrir a tune-up. That was why he was in the shop, grease up to his elbows instead of being back at the dorms working on his massive final history essay. Naturally he was lost in his own thoughts as he worked, otherwise he probably would have heard Rikku’s appearance before her heard his name being called out and feeling the bike rock from under her tackle.
He reached out to steady the bike and looked up, blinking at her closeness but not commenting on her odd pupils. His own were a bit off - the Jenova cells had left their mark in bleaching the blue around them to green as well as elongating the edges. Besides, he had secretly missed seeing her around, especially since her cheerfulness was rather catching.
Rikku illuminated with a gleeful smile at the mention of her name, and beamed at having been cause for a smile. Sometimes winces met her less than suttle appearances, though she was certain people were smiling on the inside
( ... )
“Zack got out of it better than I did,” he replied, lifting his right shoulder in a shrug. He reached up to brush the feather from his nose, managing to smear some grease on his skin in the process. Not that it mattered too much to him; he usually ended up covered in grease after working on Fenrir.
Cloud blinked at her sudden enthusiasm for his bike until he remembered that she fixed his phone the first time it got destroyed. While he knew some female scientists back home, he never really came across girls who enjoyed working on machines like his bike.
“This is Fenrir and no, you can’t have her. She’s my motorcycle.”
Rikku furrowed her brow in a fret, tripping back to the first topic with concern. "You got hurt huh Cloudster? That's a drag I'm sorry, buildings shouldn't just blow up on you! Are you better? Did you find a healer? They don't know what they're doing here! I got squished too and they just wrapped me in hard stuff and made me swallow things it's so odd! But my summoner's a healer! If you need it she can make you better!"
A giggle broke through her serious banter at the grease he smeared on his nose. Stick some goggles on him, and he'd look Al Bhed now. And a cute one at that.
"You named her! That.Is.Awesome! I have Machina back Home too! This makes me miss them! How's it work? Is it a weapon? Or is it like cars here?" She bounded circles around the vehicle, inspecting it up and down, hopping over Cloud twice in the process.

“Rikku,” he said, smiling faintly.
