Five-year-old boy crossdresses as Daphne for Halloween.

Epic motherhood ensues.Seriously, though, mad props to this kid's mother for standing up for him and for not letting him feel like some freak. If everyone had a mother half as awesome as this, I think the world would be a much better place ( Read more... )

Let's see those other moms jump back to the Globe Theater and try to get a job as an actress... Ohhh the sadness of wading in a shallow mind.

Major props to mom. Way to go for not shrinking under pressure of busybodies.

I mean, the kid's five, for fuck's sake. He's not trying to make some sociopolitical statement by putting on a wig and dressing like a girl. He just wants to be a cartoon character for Halloween.

Not only that, but kids just don't see gender like we do. Literally. Their understanding is that gender equals the activities you do or the clothes you put on. Today you're wearing barretts and pink, so you're a girl. Tomorrow you're climbing trees and playing guns, you're a boy. They simply do not understand that gender is set in stone and you can't be a girl one day and a boy the next. At least, that is the case for ages 3-4, and sometimes 5.

It's all pretend and says nothing about them.

Hee! And sometimes 30!

Sorry, Trans-person here. Refusing to believe gender's ever set in stone!

Well I meant in the sense that you can't really change your plumbing on a daily basis.

But yes. :)

Wow. I can't believe anyone would be so stupid as to protest him. I mean, like you pointed out, he's FIVE. At that age, kids want to be everything under the sun, from the opposite gender, to an animal (of the opposite gender!)

His character costume was ADORABLE. People should have been cooing over how damn cute it was (and I don't even like kids, and I'm saying this!)

Do all the little 5 year old girls who dress up as Lions for Halloween get accused of cross-dressing and beastiality? Because OMG, not ONLY are they dressed as a Male lion with a mane, but it's a LION, which is an animal! CLEARLY any five year old girl who dresses as a male lion is a Gay Zoophile, amirite?

People can be so damn stupid.

I've seen young kids cross-dress on Halloween several times. My brother went to school with a kid who literally just went up to his parents and asked to be a "pretty princess". I apparently (I don't remember this because I was like 4, I think) really wanted to be the fairy godmother from Cinderella that year. And I was, and nothing bad happened (and now I'm glad that the pictures are hidden in an album in my mom's basement where no one's going to find them for the next ten years). It baffles me how this could become a serious issue.

I think that there are some people who simply have a gut level contamination/disgust reaction to any gender ambiguity of any kind. Which, to be honest, is really, really screwed up. You don't catch Teh Gay from wigs.

That's a pretty bitchin' mom. Granted, that kid's not even close to puberty, and the fact that she's ready to immediately support him in whatever path his sexuality takes is awesome.

Kinda wish I had that support when I came out.
