Storytelling and Emotion

A few weeks ago, after driving home one night, I found myself parked outside of my house, listening to the Cloud Atlas soundtrack. As had happened each time I'd seen the movie, I'd wound up a bit misty-eyed. (I posted this on FA, too, but felt like cross-posting for emphasis)

I've got faith in you. Your writing, from your short stuff to your novels, has provoked a range of emotional responses from me. And I'm sure, as positive as I am of anything else, that Summerhill will do the same.

I've got faith in you, and I wish I was a good enough writer myself to properly express it.

I certainly understand how one can emotionally feel one thing about oneself even when intellectually one knows it is not accurate, so I don't know how much it helps to say it, but...

I am sure you know there are many writers who created great work when they were young, but became even better when they were older. Some writers produced their best work in their latter years.

Switching to a more mundane topic, with regard to CLoud Atlas, would you suggest reading the book before seeing the movie?
