When I first heard him, I imagined a fey, bald, Londoner black boy. He is none of these things. Girly, sure, but not fey. Like me, he moved as a kid from a hick town to a some kind of cultural mecca, and found a place. But he spent most of his life in America, not England. I cannot figure out where this voice comes from. But then, nobody can, and I think that's a lot of the appeal. Nobody sounds like this. You hear this, and its so other, so out of common experience, you cannot but help get entranced.
