This community is really cool- check it out
First off- $1 a week is not a lot and when a whole bunch of people participate, it can make a big huge difference.
This community will try to fulfill a nice wish for someone by asking that the members only donate $1 per week... here is their most recent post:
We're up to $45! Bad news is that we only have 3 days to raise the remaining $105 to meet our goal.
Just to remind you, we had one tip come in for an LJer who has a five year old daughter with a rare disease that will require surgery on her spine and eyes. Since we don't know how much she wants out, that's all we know. The person that gave us the information just wanted to see the child have some activities to do from bed while she recovered and so we thought we'd send a $50 gift card to a toy store where she could do some online shopping prior to the surgery. The mom is working hard to make ends meet and secure funds for time off work and surgery, I think, so the $50 gift card would be a nice treat for the little girl from her mother.
The other case is a well known and active in the communities LJer who has fallen on hard times and struggling to pay bills for her family of 5. We're not sure how much of her story she wants out there, but that two of her flisters wanted to try to raise some money to help pay some of her utilities and take some of the pressure off. We thought it would be nice to do $100 to hopefully help her play catch-up on whatever is past due.
Anyway, thank you to everybody who has donated their one dollar for this week, but would you help us grow the community by promoting it in an unlocked entry to your flist? We really need more people here to pack a punch.
