Leatherheads not Krasinski-tastic.

(No worries: no spoilers!)

So I watched Leatherheads with the bf last night.
I knew it wasn't looking so hot since the theater was only about half full 20 mins to showtime during its opening weekend.
After seeing it, I guess the critics were right once again.
Let's face it; I thought a Clooney-Krasinski match up couldn't miss, but the movie kinda fell flat for me.

The plot was predictable, but hey, that doesn't make it a bad movie.
Zelwegger and Clooney reprised familiar period roles that suited them, so that was fine.
Unfortunately, there wasn't much room for John to shine too.
As much as you tried not to, you didn't really care about his character because he was boring and most of the time, his acting was pretty stiff.
Maybe that was intentional (weak script?) but c'mon, it's John!!! I know he's not a boring guy!

I think it's no question that my favorite scenes in the movie were when John's character got drunk and later had a fistfight with Clooney's.
(They magically didn't get any bruises from that though... hmm.)
Oh yeah, John was also extra adorable during his flashback/storytelling scene.
I think I like those best because I had the feeling that John had more fun just being himself and doing what he does best in those scenes as well.

Also, the ragtime and jazz tunes they had in the movie were great but more would've been nice.
Nerd alert: good typeface usage in the opening credits too.
Nitpick: I wish we saw more of their adorable bulldog mascot.

Verdict: Okay to miss in theaters especially if you're a Krasinski fan; it's better as a dvd rental.
Quick, witty banter between Clooney and Zelwegger are the essence of the movie, along with various comedic elements reminiscent of "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"
** (2/5 stars)

p/s: Beverly, a promise is a promise. I'll still go watch it with you in theaters if you want!

movies, john krasinski
