Oh my god, I am such a sucker. I can watch it live on MY COMPUTER SO THAT IS WHAT I'M DOING. Sue me. But don't. There's all these famous people and it's like FAMOUS PEOPLE OVERLOAD.

Anyway, my observations:

Brad Pitt - that beard? No.
Listening to the phone conversations between us regular folks and the Special Actors and Singers? NO!

i'm just wondering why haiti merits so much attention. i'm at a loss as to why all these celebrities have never pulled together so quickly to support any of the travesties going on in our country. i mean i understand haiti is in a rough place and needs and deserves help. i guess i just dont understand why we're always so quick to help other countries and not our own.

I don't think that's a fair assessment. We don't have the magnitude of tragedy that Haiti has right now - 200,000 dead, millions without food/water and homeless. I mean this is a huge tragedy, like the tsunami in 2005. If I was in Haiti, I wouldn't mind folks coming together to help me...

As a global community, we damn well better help impoverished countries devastated by natural disasters.

The United States is the wealthiest nation in the freaking world. Yes, we have problems. And yes those problems should be addressed. But we have a government that can at least ATTEMPT to address them. We have the money to at least ATTEMPT to fund programs. Haiti has none of that.

Why wouldn't we help them?

They're celebrities not activists. They can justify using time and financial resources to address global issues where the local community and government can't address tem. It's a common cause that they can rally around. Individual celebrities generally do have various causes that they support and champion, there just isn't a consensus around in particular issue so you don't see the type of response you do to catastrophic global events. Think about yourself, there are causes that you care about and devote mindshare, time or money to. There is a whole slew of causes they you either don't know about or aren't compelled to dedicate resources to.  I think it's unrealitic to expect celebrities to be any different. Yes, they have more resources and they should donate to organizations that wage the battles that they care about, but we can't expect them to through themselves on every single domestic cause of merit in some unified and organized fashion.
