Who leaves a 4' foot fish, still alive, gasping for air out in a communal driveway? My neighbors, that's who. They fail at life in so many ways, this is but one.

And they left that fish alone. If you are going to jab hooks in the mouth of a fish, transport him in water all the way back home, just to let him asphyxiate on dry land by himself, then ( Read more... )

The sadness of that image will not leave me for a long time.

Ugh. That's awful. What did you do? Were you able to help the poor thing?

Initially, I was flummoxed - I mean, why is there a fish there?

I'm guessing he had been out there awhile, his last seconds were upon him. Or her. There was not anything I could do - I would say he died 30-45 seconds after I came home.

To be honest, I am not sure what I would have done had I found him immediately after they took him out of the chest of water. It isn't illegal. And they were not going to take him back. I might have yelled at them, I don't know.

It's sad to feel helpless.

I still have nightmares about my Koi fish jumping out of the pond and landing on the patio. Thankfully, it was a rare occurrence and I never lost one. It was heart-stopping when it happened, though. Can't imagine doing it on purpose.

It is just surreal to me that some people would not think the fish was suffering or that that would be an awful way for an aquatic animal to die. It makes me feel a little hopeless.

I understand. I think that fish are just one of the harder to understand animals. It isn't easy to relate.

My comment is a little convoluted. I hope you get my meaning.

Fish gasping for breath is such a terribley painful thing to see...not to mention how horrifying it is for the poor fish.

How people see that and think they don't feel and think is beyond me.

It hurts my heart as well rinala.

That just makes me all teary-eyed. I really don't think people should eat fish, much less torture them.

I hear you. They are the most killed group of animals and the least protected.
