Summery: I sat down to write something completely different. Jayne had other ideas. But hopefully the other will come soon. Ooh, plus icons at the bottom.
It didn’t feel real to him. Didn’t the first time, when her mouth seemed to find his by accident, and it didn’t now, months later, when he’s reasonably sure none of it was accidental.
Small, warm hands tracing circuitry over his skin.
None of the days in between felt real either.
His name hitched on a sigh.
That kind of goodness only existed in dreams and Jayne didn’t put much stock in those. Not usually. But he found himself dreamin’ more often these days.
Smooth, creamy skin melting under his calloused touch.
Kept thinkin’ back to that first time. Wishin’ he’d done it different. Better. Instead of standing there, stunned stupid.
Sharp little teeth, nipping at his lip, “Kiss me, Jayne.”
The times after, clandestine meetings in the engine room, sneaking into his bunk--always his--after everyone had gone to sleep, he kept thinking it was a dream. Wasn’t real. Couldn’t be.
Her warm body wound around him like ivy.
The others didn’t know. ‘Cept for maybe the girl. And no one would believe her if she did say something. Kaylee’d look at him at meal times, like she always did. Like he wasn’t good for nothin’. So sometimes, he really thought he was imaging it all.
The echo of her soft cries lingered in his bunk, even when she’d long gone.
He liked the feel of her. Would never admit it, but after, when they were sleepy and sated, he’d curl his body around hers. Sheltering. And he liked how she’d sigh and move closer.
She tasted of sex and sweat and summer wind.
It didn’t feel real.
He watched her smile up at the doctor, biggest smile he ever saw, heart all up in her eyes. The Doc reached up and touched her cheek and Jayne winced, shrinking back into the shadows.
None of it was real. But he’d wanted it to be.
