I'd reccomend skipping the music until you've gotten to know and love them. Focus on the YouTube goodies. HI-LARIOUS ( Read more... )

That the american forces wanted Iwo Jima not to launch the nuclear bombs, but to proceed with a more traditional mainland attack.

But, due to the ferocity of the Japanese stand on Iwo Jima--the fight to the death mentality--once they secured the island, they decided that the atomic bomb would be more effective at... ending the Pacific war once and for all.

Imagine, if they hadn't? If they had continued to launch a tradtional war offensive on the island. The Japanese would never stop fighting.

At least, that was the thought at the time. Having seen the movie, I think I agree.

I don't agree with the means to the end, but it was a blow Japan needed to give up.

Still, it makes me wonder what kind of world Japan and ours would be without the bomb?

I lent my Iwo Jima DVD to my great aunt & uncle and now they've both fallen for Nino. I really love that movie, it's so well done.

It was beautifully made.

Nino was...it's silly to be proud of him, but I am. He made that movie. And seeing the extras and hearing him talk about his contribution to filming just gave me a little thrill.
