Letter #1 (December 1)
[The following letter is kept in a box hidden in Ryou's room at the Blackstone Hotel. The box itself is bound with a ribbon, but is otherwise unguarded. There aren't any mystical consequences to opening it or reading the letter; it'd just be a major invasion of Ryou's privacy.]
Dear Amane,
You won’t believe the predicament your big brother’s gone and gotten himself into this time. I’m still having trouble believing it, myself. But somehow, I’ve become trapped in the American city of Chicago without any means of contacting the outside world or of getting home.
This city is full of oddities. For starters, it’s almost deserted, save for those who, like myself, have been brought here for some unknown reason. The date is different here than it was at home, as well. It’s now early winter, as I discovered the hard way. My cell phone won’t work here, but the city has apparently provided me with a special replacement, along with whatever goods I require at no charge. But most importantly, I’ve been told that there are creatures here that prey upon mortals--vampires and the Fae are not confined to legend here.
I know that I should be extremely careful, but my curiosity has been piqued. Even with all the strangeness and peril that surrounds Duel Monsters and the Millennium Items, I’ve never encountered anything like this before. I can’t help but want to learn as much as I can. Maybe it will help me find out what’s really going on around here.
One unexpected blessing that comes with this problem is that he isn’t here with me. It’s taking some getting used to, but it is a relief not to have to worry about him acting out and getting me into even more trouble.
As always, give Mother my love. And pray for my safety--I have a feeling I’ll be needing it sooner or later while I'm here.
