Valentine's Day Ball: The Red Room

Feb 08, 2006 00:09

The Red Room is, like the name implies, red. Crimson carpet covers the floor, running from one dark paneled wall to the other. The walls themselves look like natural wood, rough and textured. They match the tables and the bar, though the fixtures are lacquered to a glossy finish. The texture is clearly visible under the clear shellac, but the ( Read more... )

After being seperated from Faith, Jonathan heads towards the Red Room for some dancing. When he sees a familiar looking young woman standing by herself, he heads over to her.

"Hello," he says, deciding against asking if they knew eachother, it would just sound like a line, "Would you care to dance?"

((omgyay! Jon/Phoebeness! I think this happens before Cole shows up with Phale right? Jon's wearing a tux and a mask by the way)

Phoebe turns at the voice and smiles. "I think dancing would be a wonderful idea."

[[OOC: OMG YAY!!!! Yes, this happens before the talk with Phale and Cole]]

Taking her hand, he leads he to the floor. In deference to the music playing, something seductive and slow, he pulls her close. Not so close as to be considered tacky, what with them being almost total strangers, but close enough to move properly to this style of music.

Though... he's almost certain he's met her before.

"Don't think for a second I'm doing something as tacky as coming on to you, but have we met before? I can't help but feel like I know you from somewhere," he asks.

Phoebe smiles and is enjoying herself immensely. This is fun and no pressure.

"Did you go to a high school called Fandom High?"

It hits him all at once, "Student Council president. Phoebe something right? You had sisters? You dated Belthazor!" he says, pleased to have finally remembered why she was so familiar.

They'd all watched her closely, trying to gauge just how much pull she'd had over Bel... but that was a long time ago now.

Phoebe groans slightly and grins. "Yes, Student Council president, one of three sisters, and very serious with Cole," she confirms. "Okay, so, you know me, and you seem happy to do so, so I'm assuming I never did anything to piss you off back then. So, do I get to know who you are?"

"Oh, I, Jonathan Crane," he introdues himself, taking them for another slow turn around the floor, "But I don't think you;ll remember me. I didn't go to fandom for long and... I didn't really know to many people. I knew Bel... Cole, but only because we were in a club together for a little while."

Phoebe smiles. "I do remember you. You always seemed like such a gentleman... and you were the reason that I cheered someone kicking the shit out of my sister's ex." She follows him along the floor. "We were in the Leather Fashion show together."

Sisters... Paige and Sawyer and that stupid fight in Study Hall, "Oh, that," he says, "I'm surprised you aren't upset with me for destroying your baby sister's reputation to the point where he felt the need to do that," he winces just remembering that stupid article in the Tentacle then smiles, remembering Phoebe and all the different outfits she'd worn, "I kind of copped out on the Leather Fashion Show. Everyone else had a couple different outfits and I just showed up topless. I remember you looking really good though."

Phoebe blushes at the compliment. "Thank you. You looked good as well." She shakes her head. "Jon, Paige destroyed her reputation all by herself. You had nothing to do with that."

It still feels wrong saying anything ungentlemanly about Paige, he never did with Crowley and he was hardly going to change it now, "Paige's decisions were her own," he says with a shrug, "I just hope she's happy now and that Sawyer ended up on some god forsaken desert island or something equally horrific."

Smiling his most charming smile he looks back into her eyes, "So what have you been up to since high school?" he asks.

Again, Phoebe is reminded about how much of a gentleman she always thought Jon was. When he makes the comment about hoping Paige is happy, she ducks her head for a moment to compose herself. She doesn't want to ruin Jon's night.

She lifts her head and smiles. "Trying to stay alive, fighting for people that can't protect themselvesd, dealing with demnic bounty hunters." She grins at Jon. "You know, the usual."

"Demonic Bounty Hunters?" he asks and then laughs, "Why did I think my life would be less weird in Tropolis than it was in Fandom?," he shakes his head, "So you... help the helpless? Use you witch superpowers to defend innocents? Is that... a career? Or a hobby?"

Unspoken is his curiosity as to how this all meshes with her life with Cole. Cole, not Belthazor, did he switch sides? Was he faking? And why did Phoebe feel so... familiar. He didn't know her well enough back at school to account for the complete familiarity her had with her.

Phoebe laughs lightly. "Tropolis is much bigger than the island and therefore more weird. It's what I do because of who I am."

She shrugs at Jonathan. "Sacred duty and all that... using my Grace to help those that need it or sharing it with those that can benefit."

Phoebe is enjoying talking to Jonathan, but she's a bit confused as she could swear there's something abut Jon... a closeness that she doesn't understand. They hadn't known each other very well before he had left, but he seems... known to her.

"So a calling more than a job," he clarifies for himself, "Though I suppose it's reassuring to know your place in the world. I assume however, that you're lookign for more... tangible employment?"

She's pleasant, polite, beautiful. He has nothing against her as a person but... this feeling or sameness, of knowing her, it's annoying.

A mis-step on his part on the next turn around the floor causes her to have to shift her hands, in order to keep their rythym and forward movement. The shift causes her palm to glide over his hip, directly over his odegra. A bright warmth sings through him at the touch, not the ecstasy of Crowley's touch to his mark, but a response similar. Like reaching out and acknowledging like.

He looks into her eyes, uncertain as to what just happened, how she could do that.

Phoebe is just as surprised as he is. The only times she has felt anything remotely like that has always been at Crowley's touch. She may stumble slightly and then looks into his eyes. It's clear to her that he has no more of an idea of what just happened than she does.

"I think... we should probably talk," she says, still slightly confused. She looks around. "Gardens? Private office? Something?"
