Movie review: Unstoppable

We watched the movie Unstoppable last night.

In my opinion, it was an OK action movie which needed more Plot.  It's somewhere between the good old-fashioned disaster movie - where you find out about the lives of the people involved, then the plane crashes, San Andreas lets loose, meteor hits, volcano explodes, etc and you see how they handle the ( Read more... )

Yeah, I would call it a fun mediocre movie.

I was thinking last night about the fact it failed the Bechdel test.

My personal version is that the characters must be named, not just onscreen. So it fails that one. Technically Darcy's sister talks to her about not answering her phone, and Connie talks to Garvin's secretary. (Not that I remembered that, but I asked the web.)

It doesn't matter to me if the characters in question are named, but they do need to appear on the screen. I remember, now, Connie talking to Garvin's secretary but I do not recall seeing Garvin's secretary on screen.

I don't think Darcy's sister talking about not answering the phone counts, because the reason she's not answering is the main character, so they're effectively talking about him.

So I think we agree, but for different reasons....
