... I'm ... not sure the author knows how prostitution works? Admittedly I don't either, but I'm pretty sure this is something you could negotiate ahead of time? And that if you were the type to whip the girls you bought, word would probably get around and you'd stop being able to buy them?

I'm going to guess it was just an issue of editing here, and that he's mad that he can't get any girl to sleep with him, not that even prostitutes turn him down.... probably. Because yeah, in the 1870s I can hardly imagine they had much leeway to disagree with their customers. This is such transparent BUT HE'S REALLY EVIL, and direly needed considering Nicholas is being the fucking worst :')

If you make Edward look comparatively wholesome, you know you done fucked up, my friend!!! Seriously, I know that the whole "Abducted by a hot stranger, oh noes!!" is a staple in that kind of paperback romance pulp genre, but... isn't he supposed to be still kind of virtuous? Like, yeah, he abducted me to get back at my father/clan/evul fiance, but he still treats me a-ok so it's fine, not "oh yeah he's constantly telling me he'd totally rape and hit me if he didn't promise his straight bro he wouldn't, but otherwise he's totally the guy who would do that, that hot"????????ßßß?? amerika exprain
