GUYS I HAVE A SECRET. nekokoban already knows this secret. Probably some of the rest of you do too. But here it is: I love the holidays. Actually, I love all holidays, though "the holidays" in my particular cultural bubble tends to be Thanksgiving-Christmas-New Year's. The commercial ones, yeah. I know so many people who hate the holidays, or ( Read more... )

I'm That Person who walked by the Macy's downtown in late October and went "omg I can't wait until they put up their Christmas decorations and I can walk by after sundown and see the lights."

OH MY GOSH I DO THIS TOO. I love the holidays, I love department store Christmas displays, I love lots of food and playing games and giving presents and spending time with friends and family and BRIGHT LIGHTS EVERYWHERE. I think it's the lights that get me, because the days seem so short during the winter, even down here where it's always sunny it still feels like it's darker more often. The bright displays and lights hanging on trees and houses and in windows just seem to shout, "HEY YOU, STOP FEELING DOWN AND GAZE AT THESE BRIGHT SHINY COLORS" and I feel better about everything.

I'm glad you had a good Thanksgiving. ♥

I LOVE THE LIGHTS TOO. I'm just one of those . . . like there's little more romantic to me than walking down a city street bundled in warm coats and scarves and mittens and it's snowing and you look at all the lights and displays. idk what this says about me but to me that's always been one of my AHHH SO COOL AND BEAUTIFUL scenarios. XD And just the whole spirit of the season and. Yes.

I think that if you're able to really get into the romance of the season, the blatant exploitative commercialism gets to you slightly less. That's my tentative theory, anyway.

PS totally with you on cranberry relish. SO GOOD OMFG. My sister-in-law makes hers a lot like you do, with cranberries+orange juice+cinnamon combo, and I always save some after Thanksgiving to use it as an ice cream topping.

Sob commercialism. I think for me it's partially that like . . . our society is so commercial anyway, I mean, basically every pie out there has the thumb of corporate America in it, so it doesn't bother me as much because honestly it's just an extension of the same only amped up a bit, but the amping up is tempered by the romance and the ~spirit of caring and giving~ and the lights and beauty of the whole thing. To me it's like--I love Disney World too, right, I'M JUST THAT KIND OF PERSON, where it's like "This is not real life, it's a temporary fantasy world, and yeah it's commercial and there are unsavory aspects but it's not all there is to it, so I will ignore it and enjoy the ~magic~."

CRANBERRY RELISH. oh man I've never thought of using it on ice cream but mmmmmm.

I'm so glad you guys could make iiiit

and yes, that is how I feel about holidays, too. We've had our christmas lights up in the living room for years, and I turn them on whenever I need to feel extra cozy ;3;

my favorite part is wrapping, though. I love getting fancy paper and ribbons and wrapping stuff up for people
