That thing about the Honors College...

Have you seen the shit coming across the Honors ListServ? Holy crap! If you hadn't noticed, the flurry of emails people are sending has gotten a little out of hand. To the point that someone decided to create a Facebook group entitled "I Survived the 2006 Honors College Mailing List Fiasco." Which is still fiascing (is that even a word?), if you ( Read more... )

Thanks!
And the honors thing...weird. It's gone from angry to amused (or bemused). Oh Honors kids.

You do realize that it was one of our own triangles who created that group, right?

Oh, and I haven't actually read many of them - they all go my junk mail. ;) I did click on one to find a girl wrote, "Hi all! You're all my new buddies =) I'm up for wathing The Prestige on
Thursday, anyone wanna come?"

...Now that's just stupid.

^^ Yes, I do realize that it was a Triangle who did the whole Facebook group thing. Luckily enough, I think doing that killed both the constant emails and the Facebook group. My favorite one of them all was before this flurry came around, the one where someone replied about not knowing what was going on and to stop emailing her, and then some guy replied to her saying that maybe she should remove her phone number from her email signature when emailing a bunch of people she didn't know. Ha ha. I like that one more than the infamous "letters" email and the insidious "Ricker Deeg" email. While I'm not sure we haven't seen the last of this, at least there's been a ceasefire temporarily.

Yeah the honors college is full of rejects from the graduate college which is full of rejects from all the other colleges. Basically the people working in these two colleges are the admin that were so bad that none of the other colleges would take them. At least this is the story I have gotten from a few professors, including the ex director of my school. So the fact that they created this listserv does not surprise me in the least. Also, I am sure that it was probably the straw that broke the camels back as far as the oumail system goes. It has been on the verge of falling apart for quite a while now, as IT at OU is basically full of the same type of people as the Grad and Honors college admin.

The thing is, it's not really the Honors admin who's at fault here. Though someone has got to be responsible for the whole list repopulation and therefore manual removal thing every week. The problem is more with the students in the Honors college who are either wreeking havoc or are too stupid to know any better (which is sad for being in the honors college). Though I'm a firm believer that to be an honors student, you don't really have to be any smarter, just more bull headed in wanting to take those extra classes.
