Candidates on the Oklahoma Ballot...

Nov 01, 2006 14:46

Am I to understand that the independent candidate for Lieutenant Governor on this year's ballot is running on a platform who's sole purpose is to move the OU/Texas game to Norman?

More to come, I'm sure. I'm working through my absentee ballot so that I can get it notarized later this afternoon.

Rin.

I certainly agree on the ballot access issue. There's no reason to not let third party candidates on the ballot. But is that something the Lieutenant Governor would have influence over? Is that he could do something about?

It's just that we want to exercise our political voice. If our generation wants to be taken seriously as citizens, as voters, we need to stand up and say something. Who's going to listen to a bunch of people who don't even take the time and care to vote? I mean, consider the whole Facebook petition thing. Is this going to be the one thing our generation does something about? Don't we want to have a say in our own future? Our own present, even?

I suppose I can see where people get fed up, frustrated, or apathetic and just don't care about what's going on in the political scene. I used to be like that and didn't understand why people spent so much time and effort caring about things they probably couldn't change. Now I have a hard time seeing it the other way again.

But maybe that's what a college education does to some people. Or maybe it's just a personal issue.

Personally, I would agree. Anything that takes games away from Norman makes me happier. Then again, I'm not a huge fan of either football or the drunken, trash-mongering crowds that decimate Norman every Fall...

There are good reasons to want the game in Norman, though. Well, maybe just one. It would technically be good for the state's economy as it would bring more commerce to Norman.

On the other hand, there are definitely other and more important issues for candidates to deal with than an annual football tradition. Not that I really know what the Lieutenant Governor does...
