I don't get this

A story from the BDN about proposed legislation that would make Maine a right-to-work state brought with it the typical pro- and anit-union comments from readers. Here's the one that stuck out the most:

my guess is that they are referring to Union leaders, not just any member of Unions. I read some of the comments earlier today, and there was a lot of Union leader bashing, claiming they get a lot of the member fees themselves.

That makes it all much clearer. The guy doesn't want to pay the union boss for the "right to work" (ie, the required union dues) so he'd rather NOT work and collect welfare, therefore living off of income taken from the Union boss' taxes.

I'm not saying I agree with what the commenter is saying or even think it makes sense, but I just meant to point out that I don't think he meant that ALL Union members are making decent wages, just the leaders, and I think he's implying that Union members actually aren't making decent wages ( ... )

That last sentence of the quote is a real doozy no matter what your standpoint on unions is.
