So I’m driving to work today and there’s some republican strategist on the radio talking about Barack Obama’s speech, something this state, my state, Illinois, is still shitting its pants over. There's a grain of truth in the strategist's comment in that Obama was brilliant in taking classic conservative (or more like Libertarian) ideals such as personal responsibility, fiscal responsibility, and civil liberties and making them his own with out compromising his solid Democratic platform. Moreover, he was absolutely genius in the way that he subtly used these principles in order to show how anti-conservative (in the traditional, classical liberalism sense) Bush's presidency has really been. I was absolutely blown away by the sheer political brilliance of that speech. I'm positive that more swing votes were won that night than during any other speech or event on the campaign trail.
