Shafted Snape

Anyone else kinda pissed off that while Harry's Parents, Lupin & Sirius show up as ghosts, and Dumbledore gets a portrait there isn't a single other interaction for Snape after he dies? It seems a bit unkind that he doesn't get to see what that all his sacrifices weren't in vain ( Read more... )

He was a headmaster at Hogwarts though... He may not have gotten the job the conventional way, but shouldn't he get a portrait in the office too?

Yeah, his protrait should have been on the wall next to Dumbledore's, at least...

In my reality it is. The fact that JKR didn't mention it doesn't mean it's not there.

I didn't find it overly pointless. Obvious, slightly heavyhanded, but not pointless. I would say if the scene were written a little better, it could show exactly how callous and inhuman Voldemort is. (amanuensis wrote a 100 word drabble that did it better)Do I wish he could have died defending Harry and Co.? Of course! And I don't think Harry would let Snape be seen as evil by society, I like to think he did right by him.

The lack of a picture on the wall makes me really sad though.

Icon love. Seriously dude. Totally brilliant. Quite possibly the best I've seen ever.

Who's to say he didn't get a portrait at some point? He did, after all, die within just a few hours of the conclusion of the book, epilogue aside. Dumbledore on the other hand had been dead for over a year, so it's no wonder that his portrait was in the headmaster's office. Maybe there's been mention of how quickly portraits are hung, but I certainly can't remember any time frame being mentioned.

JK explained that since Snape deserted his post before his death (as opposed to dying while still headmaster), he didn't get a portrait until Harry got the Ministry to put one there for him.

I've seen a few complaints about why Snape wasn't called back with Harry's parents et al, which I have to admit I'm surprised by, since it seemed obvious to me. The people called back are essentially Harry's real family (well, as they would have been had he grown up with them), and they're walking him to his death; they're essentially his security blanket. Whatever he had learned about Snape at that point, I really can't imagine Harry wanting Snape to be there with him at such a moment.
