Most peculiar

I have to admit that this year's Sunnydale Highschool Prom has been one of the strangest events I have attended in some years.  It was not only realising that Dawn - who I have considered to be a child for as long as I have known her - is about to graduate from high school; nor the fact that the prom was crashed by aproximately a dozen demons - ( Read more... )

I knock on Giles' door. The whole planned feeling about the attack on the prom has been bothering me, and I really want to discuss it with him. And also the bizarre group of student helpers in the fight.

I don't know whether he noticed London with me, but I guess I should talk to him about her, too. I'm thinking he's not gonna be wild about me taking a crazy vamp under my wing, but so far she's been nothing but helpful. I lean the heel of my hand on the door jamb and wait. Maybe I should have called first.

I open the door with one hand, cradling a book on lycanthrope histories in the other. "Ah, Buffy, come in," I say absently, walking back over to the table and picking up another book. Placing it on top of the one I'm already holding, I flick through it, trying to find the right page. I'm sure that I saw.. "Ah, yes, here it is - there's a conflict here. The Histories say that," I look up and see the look on her face. "Right, yes.." she's not interested, I'm not surprised. I put both books down. "What can I do for you?"

"Whatcha researching?" I ask, glancing at the books. "'Cause I'm wondering if we should be looking into someone or something behind the demon attack."

I catch the title of one of the books. "Lycanthropy, huh? Was that the strangest werewolf behavior ever, or what?" It really had been odd to watch the wolf fight side by side with Amanda like they were a team.

"One of many strange events at the prom," I say, walking into the kitchen and filling the kettle. "Tea?"

"Yeah, well if it's brutal and nasty like some of their tests, I say skip it and don't tell them. Amanda's a great girl." I laugh. "I helped her pick out her prom dress--didn't know she'd be fighting in it."

"I hadn't intended to involve the Council at all," I say with some affront. "Which is why there my table looks like a second hand book shop right now. And I promise that any test I find will not involved anything dangerous to her - heaven knows, I may well be wrong."

"Don't go looking like I called your mother names, I just wanted to be clear. You were the one that mentioned the Council," I say. I hesitate and add, "But you know, she might be a lot happier not knowing, if she is. It...changes everything. Not necessarily in a good way."

I set my now empty mug down on the table and remove my glasses - I swear there's another streak on the right lens. "Yes, I'm aware of that. In fact, I thought that it may be best for someone to talk to her, find out how she feels about-" I pause and replace my glasses - much better. "What happened, get a feel for how she may react if it indeed does turn out to be the case that she is a potential slayer."

"Well, obviously she's fighting the good fight then," I say sarcastically. "And yet she's here, in Sunnydale?"

"She came with a letter," I explain. "Some Mrs. Merryweather lady took care of her for like a bunch of years, and when she died sent her looking for me and Cordy. Guess she remembered and mentioned us to her." I sigh. "She is really fighting the good fight. I can feel it," I say. "She's like a little girl...okay, gruesome scary little girl, but sweet."

I rub my temples slightly, feeling a headache coming on. "A sweet little insane vampire girl. Once, just once, I'd like something to be simple."

"Yes, exactly," I say. "Think Spike, only...you know insane but actually nice?" London was hard to explain. "You need to meet her. I promise, she won't bite."
