015 - SO OVERDUE OHGOD

Jul 14, 2009 23:21

Good Lord, has it really been that long since I last made a journal entry? I suppose I have been rather involved in reading and cataloguing some of the er- more arcane texts in the library. We seem to have an enormous collection, when you consider the small need for it here. Of course, from a purely academic standpoint, it's fascinating. Do you ( Read more... )

I would quite like to see the Victorian texts you mentioned, Mr. Giles. Might the library have anything else on demonology or the occult?

Forgive me, I am Sir Integra Hellsing...

We do indeed have a large collection of various books of occult lore and numerous texts of demonology from across the ages. In fact, there are some particularly rare texts I've only once or twice heard of, let alone seen a copy of... Please, come to the library and I can show you.

A pleasure, Sir Integra.

You work at the library, Mr. Giles? Ah. I took out a loan of quite a few rather obscure works a few days ago, which...might not be making your work at cataloguing any easier.

Really fascinating stuff, though. Riddled with inaccuracies, naturally, but still. I was delighted to find the original text of Daemonolatreiae libri tres, I don't think I've spotted one of those since it was first published. The translation didn't do it any favours at all.

The BEST kind of fanboyism. ripper_watches July 14 2009, 23:26:15 UTC
Ah, that would explain- I did notice an absence of a number of texts I was sure I'd seen earlier, but please, you don't need to rush them back. If we have a record of which you've taken out, it won't be a problem. There are some brilliant texts and some of them do require careful going-over to get the full extent of the writing...

Are rare books a hobby of yours, Mr. Aziraphale, or is it a professional interest?

A little of both? I used to own a little bookshop in Soho - mostly prophetic texts and rare Bible prints, although I accumulated a decent amount of occult literature in the 16th century - although if I'm to be wholly honest, I bought more books than I ever sold.

I'm SO sorry this took so long. RL faillll. ripper_watches July 26 2009, 02:54:59 UTC
How fascinating! I always thought about owning a bookshop, though I must admit, the idea of parting with my own texts fills me with a sense somewhat akin to dread. I suppose that was why I became a librarian instead.

Er, if it's not too bold, did you bring any of your own collection onto the Barge with you? I would be very interested to see them if you had.

I imagine I could fill in some of the blanks in the demonology texts. Not everything, though. My specialization was-- is-- humans, not the infernal. I mean, you can know a demon by name, but that doesn't mean you automatically figure out his anatomy and power set, you know?

I'm Bartleby, incidentally. Glad to hear we have a scholar on board.

You could? That would be a great help- academically, of course. We don't have too many demons that need defeating here, but I would find it very interesting...

A pleasure to meet you, Bartleby. Might I ask, how do you come to be in a position to know demons by name?
