I think the safest solution may be a bear box (bear proof metal trash container that locks)- see if your county provides them......or animal control? rangers?

with a new wee one coming soon that bear needs to learn quick you're NOT a drive thru.

That should solve all problems.... I just don't know where to get them....

anyone have any other ideas?

Probably a good idea. I'm going to post something on our neighborhood blog and see if anyone has any good ideas that's worked for them. We're thinking if we can secure the gate better then that might be enough to deter the bear. I have a feeling we'll have to try a few things before we find the solution. I have to say, it's kind of cool having all of this wildlife around. We also have a mountain lion who has been roaming around. As long as we can all coexist without any problems...I don't care.

it's kind of cool and kind of scary at the same time...I think it's cool from a distance and a little scary if it was ever close up and personal. But, at the moment it's just annoying because someone in this house is going to have to clean it up and I bet that someone is going to be me...yick!

did I mention our mountain lion and some Santaria freaks who are doing animal sacrifices and rituals...with CANDLES!...in the canyon areas around us?! fuckers! they're going to burn down our neighborhood if they keep that up. Oh yeah...and we've got tarantulas too. I haven't seen any but the people who live closer up have...
